Legs to show his jets in Scotland

Back Jet Legs @ 3/1 in the 15:55 at Ayr

Eleven runners and a competitive 3m Handicap Hurdle at Ayr and even down to Niceandeasy at 12/1 from 16s would have a chance, but Martin Todhunter's Jet Legs should improve again for sticking to 3m.

He has yet to win a race over hurdles in seven attempts but definitely ran a better race when upped in trip last time. I thought he saw out the 3m at Wetherby in soft conditions very well.

He was beaten 1L by the improving The Imposter for Nigel Hawke and there was a big enough gap back to the third to treat that as a reasonable piece of form for the grade.

The 7yo ran a fair race at Ayr in January over an inadequate 2m4f, and the better ground, or at least good to soft should suit him judged on one of his better efforts as a Novice Hurdler at Kelso.

This will be his fifth start in handicap company and, with a small rise to 102, he can give trainer Martin Todhunter his second winner at the track this term.

I like his sire Jet Away as a jumps' stallion and there is a 3m1f winner in his pedigree with Ardaghs Choice.

Chasse debut awaits the Gentleman

Back Gentleman De Mai @ 11/4 in the 16:30 at Ayr

The hardy Prince Dundee is in this, and I am familiar with a lot of his work at Hexham, but Gentleman De Mai looks appealing making his chase debut this afternoon for Rose Dobbin.

The 7yo's is out of a half-sister to 2m-3m1f multiple Betfair Chase winner Bristol De Mai, so he is certainly bred to make his mark over fences, and he looked a fine prospect over hurdles winning on his debut at Ayr last season.

He was outpaced over the 2m on that run, and might have found the decent ground too lively, but he stayed on well to win going away.

Handicapping afterwards has proved disappointing in three starts this season, save for a good run at Ayr over 2m4f. Once again that looked a completely inadequate test of his potential stamina, and today we finally get our wish to see him over fences at 3m for the first time.

He disappointed at Newcastle at the trip on his latest start, but cheekpieces on today will help and sharpen him up.

Rose Dobbin has had a disappointing season with 10 winners, but seven of those have been over fences at 16%, and a return to Ayr is a huge plus for the horse. Hopefully he can justify his 11/4 price.
