"First-time cheekpieces are on too, and Suroor is a must-have man on your side when he reaches for the headgear. His stats with cheekpieces at Kempton are impressive at 20% win and 44% placed."
Alan Dudman has picked out two horses for Kempton's Saturday 29/1 double with stats heavily in their favour...
Mostahdaf out to maintain fine AW record
Back Mostahdaf @ 5.59/2 in the 14:05 at Kempton
Another second yesterday with Kitai hitting another low at 1.3130/100 in-play, although considering I really fancied Arctic Fox - and wasn't alone as she was well backed, she failed miserably in a tactical race where Andrea Atzeni found his riding groove for once.
A quality card to look forward to at Kempton on Saturday and Dubai Honour rated 116 running in the Group 3 September Stakes is down in class with a big shout on his high level of form, but Mostahdaf isn't too far behind on official ratings (in fact 1lb) and goes particularly well on the AW.
His record is 2-2 on artificial and won at Kempton in his younger days. His relations Nazeef and Musahaba were very classy operators, and both were AW winners, indeed Nazeef was also 2-2 and won at Kempton.
The 4yo ran no sort of race last time out behind Yibir at Newmarket without any cover and stopped quickly. Newmarket has been a law unto itself this season anyway, but it was too bad to be true.
He wasn't good enough against Bay Bridge and Broome earlier in the season and had little chance in the Hardwicke.
John Gosden is persisting with 1m4f although the "Dice" trainer has only fired in two winners at Kempton this term but Frankel is good at Kempton with a record as a sire at 17% win and 39% placed although tellingly it's 30% at Kempton over 1m4f.
Cheekpieces on for First View make him the play
Back First View @ 5.59/2 in the 14:40 at Kempton
Saeed bin Suroor's First View appears to be another simply suited to Kempton better than anywhere else with a CD record of 112 and he looks to have a major chance in a cracking handicap at 9/2.
His two Kempton victories as a 2yo came on his first two starts and not many of the trainer's win first-time out. He made the running in one and sat handy in a tactical race in the other although hit much bigger prices in-play in both of those victories.
The 5yo has come back well this term after a mammoth 811-day absence that robbed him of the best part of his career, but a fine seventh in the John Smith's Cup last time behind subsequent Group winner Anmaat puts him well in the mix here.
As does the booking of excellent apprentice Christian Howarth.
First-time cheekpieces are on too, and Suroor is a must-have man on your side when he reaches for the headgear. His stats with cheekpieces at Kempton are impressive at 20% win and 44% placed.
