"The 7yo also ran well from the front over shorter at the 'Robe last season - hot on the heels of a Fairyhouse Maiden that worked out reasonably well."
Alan Dudman had an easy winner with Larry Looby yesterday but missed the Sportsbook double, his Tuesday multiple comes from Ballinrobe over the jumps...
No trouble backing Time at Ballinrobe
Back Troubled Times @ 2.56/4 in the 17:00 at Ballinrobe
Another fine win from a Hexham scorer at Cartmel on Monday as Larry Looby won by 6L - but Idilico came up short sadly for yesterday's multiple as once again the second winner proved somewhat elusive for yesterday's column.
A fairly easy choice today to select Ballinrobe in County Mayo for Tuesday's destination. It was about as one-sided as you can get with Musselburgh in opposition as the only other meeting (at the time of writing). Pickings are slim there to say the least.
Troubled Times could be a fairly apt selection, and Sam Curlng's mare created a very good impression when landing a bumper in May at Killarney on decent ground. I'm far from alone with this one, as she was hammered from 11/4 into 6/4 on the Sportsbook last night.
She wore a cross noseband on that run and still looked a little inexperienced, but for a small horse, she stayed well and seemed to travel around the corners in a pleasing fashion despite going out to her left.
The form at the time didn't look the strongest, but the second, third, fourth and eleventh have all subsequently won a race.
Her hurdling debut recently was a pleasing introduction at Tipperary over 2m4f against rivals with more experience. There were also a couple of runners in the field from Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott in behind. Yielding ground there might not have been ideal, but I am fairly open-minded on that front considering it's so early in her career, but her debut victory on a quicker surface allays any fears regarding the weather on Tuesday.
A step up today to 2m6f on pedigree looks a good move considering she's a relation to Honest Vic - who stayed forever.
Lee's mare is edging closer to a first career win
Back Karla Martina @ 8.07/1 in the 19:30 at Ballinrobe
Galway trainer Norman Lee will have big hopes for his stable star Sole Pretender for the upcoming Ballybrit meeting at the end of the month, and while Lee's numbers in terms of horses in training aren't huge, his runners have been faring well at Sligo recently with a winner and a second from a handful sent out.
His mare Karla Martina is 0-11 thus far, and rated just 93 as one of the runners towards the head of the weights for this tells you about the standard.
She has gone well at Ballinrobe in the past - including an effort over CD in May when finishing third. That was her first try at the distance and her stamina gave way as she ran out of puff as she went off far too hard from the front.
The 7yo also ran well from the front over shorter at the 'Robe last season - hot on the heels of a Fairyhouse Maiden that worked out reasonably well.
It will be fascinating to see if young Robbie Geoghegan with his 7lb claim adopts to go with the lead considering the distance at which she is unexposed at - but him back in the saddle can hopefully yield a reward as he has been on before.
