Alan is hoping the wet weather forecast will aid the chances of his two Irish selections on Sunday

Alan Dudman has picked out a 9/1 double on the Sportsbook for Sunday's card at Listowel...

Monty to show the way ahead of shorter price Jon Snow

Back Monty's Way @ 5.59/2 in the 15:40 at Listowel

I rode the gondola of disappointment yesterday as the column's two selections failed to make an impact at Epsom, and while there are big fields at Musselburgh on Sunday, I am opting for a pair relatively short in the betting for today's Sportsbook multiple.

The 15:40 revolves around Jon Snow, who landed a couple of weak races over hurdles in 2020 by huge margins but then had over 600 days off. His comeback last time after the absence was a non-event as he was beaten out of sight, and he's a difficult horse to try and rate for his return to the Flat. Especially at 15/8, for that was his price yesterday and into the morning.

He could make the running, and that might not be ideal for Donnacha O'Brien's Artistic Choice, and while he is a bit of a puzzle on pedigree as a Caravaggio going up to 2m, he could be a doubtful stayer. Not many by the sire are seen over this trip.

Stamina is very much the forte of Monty's Way. He scored by 2L over 1m5f last time from 79 in a handicap over 2m1f at Killarney.

Monty's Way is related to Naughty Or Nice, a stayer, and the distance last time might have unlocked some improvement as he ran some poor races last season bar his Roscommon maiden win.

The weather forecast is fairly grim for the whole week in Ireland with rain, rain and more rain. That should suit the selection as his Killarney win came on soft.

A totally tropical selection with Barbados

Back Barbados @ 2.68/5 in the 17:10 at Listowel

The 1m5f closer on the Listowel card looks rather winnable and it's no surprise that the top-rated pair Dance Jupiter (93) and Barbados (104) have it between them in terms of the market.

Dance Jupiter is the shorter of the two at around 5/4, but he isn't the sort of horse for me, to take that sort of price on. He's had a few excuses in his time and while he met some trouble at Cork last time, he is unproven at today's 1m5f trip. Granted he is at home in soft conditions and the forecast rain will be of benefit. If he'd been around 5/2 he might have been more interesting, but sadly he isn't/wasn't from watching the markets yesterday.

Barbados has no problems in the stamina department, and if he can replicate his run from last June at the Curragh, he should outstay these.

He was ridden with patient tactics in that Premier Handicap and looked to have been given far too much to do as he was nearly last down the straight with 2f to go. The first made his move closer to the pace, sooner, and the second was right up with the pace. But Barbados stayed on well despite looking a slightly hard ride.

It's easy to see why the headgear was slapped on last time at Gowran Park in a far stronger race than this. The winner was rated 111, and the second also was on the three-figure mark.

An emphasis on stamina could suit him. He's unlucky to take his lead from the school of Plutarch leading, so if you are playing on the single, he is likely to hit higher in-running.
