Mason to guide home Toyboy for Leafy opener
Back Kath's Toyboy @ 5.04/1 in the 11:42 at Lingfield
Hiddenvalley Lake was a fine winner and another drifter for the column yesterday at 6.12128/25 on the BSP, but unfortunately I Sea The Moon was pulled up on her return. She was weak in the betting and was still in touch in the latter stages but stopped quickly so hopefully all is okay with her, as I think she can win a race at a galloping track.
No jumpers for Monday, so it's All-Weather all the way, and Lingfield hopefully will get us off the mark early with a horse I have backed recently in Kath's Toyboy.
He runs nice and early in the 11:42 7f Handicap and at 4/1, he is a fair price in an eminently winnable contest at 0-62 level.
I put him up for Southwell last time over 6f, and once again he travelled well and hit 2.47/5 running from a 6.54277/50 price, but he couldn't peg back the front two - who both were more forwardly ridden.
Kath's Toyboy didn't quite have the position to kick off the slow pace, and a race finishing speed of 108% highlighted the better positions of the front two. Indeed, the winner Miss Bella Brand ran a sub-11 sectional.
The selection travels nicely for a horse in this sort of grade, and this is an easier race. Up just 1lb, and a third try at 7f, Lingfield could be a track that suits him better than Southwell.
Jo Mason takes over from Kevin Stott, and Mason is 1-6 at Lingfield this term at 16%.
Harb can take revenge on Pop Dancer
Back Harb @ 4.57/2 in the 13:12 at Lingfield
The 0-85 headlines the day at Lingfield, and with just six runners, there's no each-way angle and the race sees a rematch between Pop Dancer and Harb.
The latter was unlucky in meeting a bit of trouble in the closing stages, in fact a lot of trouble as Pop Dancer got the run on the field on the outside - which for me is the best place to be on the All-Weather track and I am not a fan of horses that make their move on the inside. That's the route Harb took, and he couldn't get out at all.
He had previously scored well over 6f at Chelmsford and is still nicely treated on his old form with former trainers Mark Johnston and William Knight.
Stepping up to 6f and a run on the outside with the famous Lingfield slingshot run can mean revenge on Pop Dancer.
Shane Kelly is on and is 2-9 in the last month at 22%.
