Dennis to kick up a storm in the Stratford opener

Back Storm Dennis @ 2.56/4 in the 13:00 at Stratford

The each-way double was landed yesterday and it's two winners and two seconds for the last couple of Daily Racing Multiple columns - so we're in form still with October beginning fairly well.

Laurel was the Saturday pick and hit 1.121/8 in-running to finish second from a 9/1 price, while Couldbeaweapon ran with great credit also finishing second and hitting 1.618/13. Small margins and all that. Yesterday's 38/1 pair would have been nice for the win.

Monday's action is not so grand, but I like the claims of a chasing debutant at Stratford to kick us off.

Trainer Chris Gordon is in form at the moment and is 5-14 at 36% in the last month. His Storm Dennis is a very strong 6/4 favourite in the opening 2m7f Novices' Handicap Chase and should be better than his opening mark of 120. It looks lenient.

He landed a 0-140 over hurdles at Kempton last February and has been off since, but Gordon is a trainer who can have them ready and the horse seems to enjoy sharp tracks with victories at not only Kempton, but also Huntingdon.

The 6yo seems versatile ground-wise and looks to have a fair bit of stamina in his pedigree. He should make a winning start today with Niall Houlihan on - and he rode a winner at Fontwell on Saturday.

No secrets with Moment's chances in Wolves' feature

Back Secret Moment @ 3.02/1 in the 19:30 at Wolverhampton

I have outlined the claims and stats for Secret Moment in my Monday Daily Racing News instalment and he could be a hard horse to beat if he can replicate his Chelmsford run earlier in the season.

That came in 0-90 grade and he finished second, and I like class-droppers running off top weight in handicaps - even better when a claimer is booked. Stefano Chechi has the honour today, and Suroor and Cherchi are 3-10 on the All-Weather together at 30%.

To continue with the stats angle; the visor is back on for Secret Moment, and that seems to help him as he was too keen last time without the headgear. Back on today, bin Suroor with the visor's numbers are equally 3-10 and with a fair draw against a second favourite who is a smooth traveller but doesn't always go through with the effort, I am hoping we can collect on another Godolphin winner for the column - hot on the heels of Soft Whisper for the trainer on Saturday. ]]

He has also drifted nicely out to 2/1 this morning.
