Alan Dudman heads to Ffos Las and Goodwood on Friday and is backing Muktamil and Vino Victrix at big prices for his daily double...
Muktamil can get off to a good start for Marcus
Back Muktamil @ 13.012/1 in the 14:10 at Ffos Las
A rare bet for me at Ffos Las today with the 7 1/2f race for juveniles and a Marcus Tregoning son of Sea The Stars looks of interest in the shape of Muktamil.
Tregoning has sent out only two 2yo runners this season and one has placed, and with only seven winners on the board all season from 50, it's been a very quiet campaign but he struck with a winner yesterday.
However, he still trains the occasional one in the famous blue and white livery of the late Hamdan Al Maktoum, and as a son of Sea The Stars with a Derby entry, one would hope he possesses some ability. Although I do ignore those entries as it means little at this stage.
He's related to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Yesterday and 7f 2yo Group 1 winner Quarter Moon, so there's hope he could be ready to do himself justice, even though this trip will be a bare minimum for the sire.
This looks a good race for Ffos Las and their usual 2yo contests as there are some well bred sorts in this, and we have a big enough price to go each-way.
The trainer has sent only 19 runners to the Welsh venue in his time, with two winning and seven placed.
Morrison's Vino deserves to get his head in front
Back Vino Victrix @ 8.07/1in the 18:10 at Goodwood
Trainer Hughie Morrison is double-handed for the 2m Handicap with Our Jester and Vino Victrix, and I am hoping the latter can convert a couple of placed efforts and get his head in front.
The 4yo had the look of a progressive horse last term winning at Sandown and Kempton, indeed the form of his Sandown victory had worked out very well with plenty of winners coming from it.
The wheels slightly came off when he was soundly beaten in a hot race at York, and since being gelded over the winter, he has gone four runs without a win this year.
His best effort, and an unlucky one at that was behind Master Milliner at Kempton in July off a mark of 85 - a race he met traffic problems down the straight behind a good winner. Master Milliner subsequently won a good prize afterwards and wasn't disgraced at the Ebor meeting and he bumped into a well treated sort last time.
There's still some scope from Vino Victrix's mark, especially with Benoit De La Sayette booked with his claim. I like the fact he drifted last night from to 8/1 with eight runners for an each-way bet.
