Alan Dudman had another single winner yesterday at 9/2 with High Velocity and he is hoping to strike with a near 9/1 double on Thursday at Sedgefield...
Sayer's The Navigator out for win number four at Sedgefield
Back The Navigator @ 5.04/1 in the 14:00 Sedgefield
Another single winner for yesterday's column in the shape of High Velocity. That means five winners in the last six days at 9/2, 5/4, 2/1, 7/1 and 10/1, yet once again the second selection couldn't get the job done as they say. Everything looked good beforehand as Turner Girl was strongly backed, but hopefully we can find a double today.
Sedgefield for Thursday is the port of call, although sadly scantily stocked cards for the afternoon means few each-way betting options.
I am however looking forward to seeing Dianne Sayer's The Navigator, who is seeking out his fourth win from just six starts at the track.
Sayer's horses were in fine fettle at the recent Cartmel fixture on Bank Holiday Monday, as two of her horses were easy winners and one placed second too.
The Navigator has had a couple of spins on the Flat coming into this following a well beaten effort at Cartmel, a race where connections went pot-hunting as he wasn't up to class 2 level in a 20k race in which he was beaten 12L.
Sayer has called him a big beautiful horse with a lot of ability, and when he gets it right, he usually receives a hold-up ride and ridden confidently and he'll have the pace to run at today as El Borracho likes to lead and press on.
He ran a belter at Kelso back in May behind the 129-rated Rich Belief in a 0-150 and was arguably unlucky. He has won three times on good ground and acts on quick, and while rain is forecast for Thursday, I am hoping we get to race on genuine good ground which will aid his chances.
Leopold's can bloom with first-time headgear
Back Leopold's Rock @ 1.910/11 in the 15:00 at Sedgefield
The bigger fields are all at Winsdor this evening for the latest round of the Racing League, so if you are looking for each-way value, that's the port of call if you are looking to play two to place in the same race on the Sportsbook using a place multiple and equally, Daryl Carter's Racing League preview should be your port of call too as he made a profit with a decent winner last week at Newcastle.
It's very hard to get away from the claims of Leopold's Rock in the 2m1f Handicap Hurdle, and he looks the form pick by same way. Indeed, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go around 8/11 such is the way he can travel through his races as he isn't short of pace.
He was a very stylish winner at Uttoxeter by 5L in June and jumped better that day as his hurdling was very scrappy at Newcastle previously.
He was ridden by an amateur last time and made an error crucially two from home last time, hopefully those errors are not a trope of Leopold's, and with the cheekpieces on for the first time today, it should sharpen him up. He'll certainly travel better than anything else in a race that doesn't look particularly strong.
Good ground will be ideal and Brian Hughes is riding - with a very warm record of late with 14 winners from 37 in the last month at 38%. He really is relentless. His trainer Phil Kirby is 1-2 at the track this term too at 50%.
