Perrett's unexposed handicapper a player in feature
Back Rebel Territory @ 5.59/2 in the 18:00 at Kempton
The wheels have ever-so-slightly come off this week in the search for a double, but a good card at Kempton has my spirits high, especially with Rebel Territory in the feature 0-105 1m Handicap at Kempton tonight.
I've put this horse up as the each-way bet in today's Daily Racing News column, as he comes into the race with hardly a tough campaign this year with just three starts.
He landed the Whitsun Cup earlier in the spring at Sandown and travelled like a well-handicapped horse from 93 that day to beat a nicely-treated rival in Ouzo back in second.
The 4yo also looked a handicapper to follow in 2021 when winning a 1m1f race at Goodwood over 1m1f in soft conditions. He saw the trip out strongly that afternoon with a good pace to run at, and perhaps the ground was a bit too quick at Ascot last time - a race in which he was sent off favourite.
He is unexposed on the AW and will have speed in the race with Dubai Icon the likely front-runner from his inside draw, and I can see the stiff finish with the track riding slow really playing to his strengths.
Perrett is also 2-6 in the last 14 days with a strike-rate of 33%. With eight runners, we can use him as an each-way pick for a single
Gosden ready to make hay with Almuhit
Back Almuhit @ 4.3100/30 in the 18:30 at Kempton
The action continues for the double at Kempton and a good crop of handicappers for the following 18:30 over 1m3f and I am hoping the potential will come to the fore with John Gosden's Almuhit.
He's a full-brother to the great Taghrooda and got up and and running with a win at Haydock in May. The horse in second was Hello Jumeirah, who has since won a handicap easily from a mark in the 80s, and the form of that Novice looked quite good at the time. He was held up a long way off the pace and still had a lot of work to do at 2f with the blinkers, and that surge was impressive. He wasn't exactly given a hard time either at the the end.
The 3yo was ragged at the start, but like so many of the Sea The Stars' offspring, his stamina came into play and stayed on strongly to win well.
Sea The Stars has a 15% win-rate at Kempton but that rises to 25% excluding 2yos over 1m3f and I am not put off at all regards his break since May following him being gelded, as he'll meet horses who have been far busier this year and he's fresh.
I am looking for the "11 and change" sectionals from him in the closing stages.
