Alan Dudman had a well backed 5/2 easy winner with New London yesterday but missed out on the double, so he is hoping to hit the multiple target with a 13/1 pair for Super Saturday...
Charlie out for more Summer Mile success
Back Mutasaabeq @ 4.3100/30 in the 15:35 at Ascot
The Ascot Group 2 Summer Mile has attracted seven runners which is about on par with the previous renewals in terms of horses and Mutasaabeq can hopefully give Charlie Hills back-to-back success in the race following Tilsit's victory 12 months ago.
I had fairly lofty hopes for this 4yo and backed him for the 2,000 Guineas in 2021, so the fact he was 7.06/1 for that and 4.3100/30 and the potential to drift for this, makes him the bet.
He went into Newmarket last year following a highly impressive victory at HQ where he ran a devastating 10.93 seconds penultimate sectional - the only one in the race to dip under 11 seconds. That turn of foot on quick ground will certainly come into play here.
He lost his way a bit following the Classic, but he has returned to his near-best this term with good efforts in the Group 2 Bet 365 Mile at Sandown and the Diomed at Epsom last time. He was unlucky in the latter as he wasn't in the ideal position off the fast pace, and from out wide, he looked ill at ease down the camber.
Baking hot conditions on quick ground are ideal as he is out of a real favourite of mine in Ghanaati - who broke the track record in the Coronation and as a dam, all six of her offspring have won races.
Aclaim looks a right royal bet for Walls
Back Royal Aclaim @ 4.03/1 in the 16:40 at York
Favourite Winter Power looks vulnerable in the 5f City Walls at York, simply as she is nowhere near her previous best this term and she's taking a drop down in class, a big one considering she's a previous Nunthorpe winner.
The up-and-comer is James Tate's Royal Aclaim, who claimed the prized scalp of Perfect Power on her sole 2yo start last season at Newcastle on debut.
It took a while to see her for her 2022 return, but she produced a consummate performance at Bath to win by nearly 4L without ever coming off the bridle. The bare form isn't strong, as she beat a 68-rated second and the third has since won a handicap off 74. But she could have won by double the margin had she wanted as Neil Callan barely moved her on the outside.
She held a Commonwealth Cup entry earlier in the season and also had a July Cup entry for today, so it seems her trainer Tate is keen to bring her on in a rather steady fashion.
The exciting 3yo has multiple Group 1 entries for the remainder of the season - including the Nunthorpe and Champions Day.
Andrea Atzeni takes over from Callan, and he has a record of 3-17 at 18% when riding for the yard.
