Alan is hoping to to maintain his good run of late by picking two winners at Haydock

"She previously had smashed a field by almost 5L over CD on fast ground on her previous start - not only proving her ability over the trip, but also a different surface as she had scored in soft."

Alan Dudman found his sixth single winner in the last seven days yesterday but he is still searching for a winning double that takes him to Haydock on Friday afternoon for a 14/1 duo...

Johnston filly ready to step up from previous Haydock debut

Leopold's Rock was an easy winner for yesterday's column, and amazingly drifted out to 13/8 as a returning SP. I thought he should have been shorter, and he won by nearly 4L.

That's six single winners in seven days at prices of 4/5, 5/4, 2/1, 5/2, 7/1 and 10/1, and the double doesn't feel far away. It should have been yesterday as The Navigator finished second and was beaten in-play at 1.491/2. Slightly frustrating.

Friday's action is taking me to Haydock, and not often do I back a Mark Johnston horse, but his filly Kitai showed so much ability over CD in early August, I find it hard to get away from her at around 2/1.

Times suggested the ground was more quick than the official good description on that occasion and she breezed through the race to be matched at 1.51/2 before finishing second.

That was some effort against the well-bred colt for Roger Varian called Charyn, who looked well above average. Indeed, there were some pedigrees and good lookers in that field, and the fact she travelled but finished second means she doesn't have a penalty like Zouky.

The No Nay Never filly was expensive herself and is stacked full of speedy 2yos in her pedigree with her trainer firing in 37 juvenile winners this year.

On the hunt for a Martin winner

Night Sparkle is the sort of horse I would usually get sucked into backing. With his profile, connections and string of places, but a bigger price selection with Arctic Fox appeals more back at a track he likes.

Indeed, her record here reads 41126 and won't mind the drop back to 1m6f this afternoon as she didn't totally convince over 2m last time in the Sunday Series, although I might give her the benefit of the doubt as it was a useful contest.

She previously had smashed a field by almost 5L over CD on fast ground on her previous start - not only proving her ability over the trip, but also a different surface as she had scored in soft.

Winning off 75 that day, she had a lot in hand, and her current mark of 81 and top weight in a handicap leads me to her chances.

Trainer Martin Todhunter's horses are going with his last five finishing 21323.
