Daily Racing Multiple: Alerted to Red with some Sligo fire with Fellowes

Irish jumping
Alan is looking to Sligo this evening for a winner with Mark McNiff

"She ran well at Sligo over the extended 1m2f in May when finishing third off a mark of 61 in a better quality race with the ceiling rating 85, so she takes a drop in class tonight down to 0-65."

Alan Dudman is taking in Sligo and Newbury for his Tuesday 37/1 multiple with Red Ball Of Fire and Cloudbreaker...

Fellowes can be a jolly good chap in providing us with a winner

Back Cloudbreaker @ 7.06/1 in the 18:35 at Newbury

Yesterday was far from ideal with Bling On The Music carried the whole width of the track at Windsor by Star Tracker, and he still failed to get the win in the stewards' room.

It's not my first in that sphere, as Mooneista was subject to similar sort of treatment in Ireland earlier in the season. And with The Ridler doing the same at Royal Ascot (and perhaps far worse), one has to wonder what the rules are. Bling On The Music might not have won, but it would have been nice to see whether he had the chance to. Unless the stewards had to dash to get the last train home.

Those are the breaks I'm afraid. But the rules are muddied waters.

It's a somewhat threadbare day for Tuesday with the usual class 6 basement offerings, and Newbury is dragged into the mire with a fairly moderate card - somewhat surprising for a Grade 1 track. However, the quality could come in the 18:35 Novice Stakes and Charlie Fellowes could have a likely type on pedigree with an expensive son of Sea The Stars ready to make his debut in the shape of Cloudbreaker.

He cost 200,000gns and anything by Sea The Stars is worth a second glance, and there's enough from the distaff side to warrant an interest. Deveron (the dam) ran for Saeed bin Suroor around 15 years ago and was good enough (and quick enough) to win on her second start as a juvenile, and she's proved to be an excellent broodmare and source of winners with five individual scorers over a variety of trips.

Fellowes has only sent out five juveniles this term, but one has scored, while jockey Kieran Shoemark features in the hot list at the moment with 15 winners from his last 73 mounts over the last month at a hit-rate of 20% and level stakes profit of +21.50. He rode Bling On The Music yesterday, so some compensation is in order with Cloudbreaker.

Red ready to score for her local Sligo owners

Back Red Ball Of Fire @ 5.59/2 in the 19:50 at Sligo

One of the largest fields of the day sees 14 compete for the 1m2f handicap in Sligo, and Red Ball Of Fire goes well at the track for trainer Mark McNiff. It was a close call with her or Ado McGuinness' 0-35 maiden Cometh The Man. I suspect we still be waiting for the man to cometh for the win.

Admittedly that track form is over hurdles, and the caveat here comes in the shape whether McNiff's mare is quick enough to deal with a 1m2f trip.

She ran well at Sligo over the extended 1m2f in May when finishing third off a mark of 61 in a better quality race with the ceiling rating 85, so she takes a drop in class tonight down to 0-65. She came from off the pace in a race that suited a couple of closers, and that's something to bear in mind if you are playing on the win single, as she is likely to trade a fair bit higher in-running if those tactics are replicated again.

Her effort over hurdles last time at Downpatrick was an honourable second, not helped by making a mess of one of the closing hurdles and hanging away her chance, but she's fit and stays and has Sligo form which should put her in with a shout.

Hopefully it can be one for the local owners called the Sligo Sopranos Syndicate, as she's dipped down to a mark of 58, which is lower when she was previously trained by Eddie Lynam.

She was a positive in the betting too this morning from 6s into 9/2.
