Cheltenham Day 1 Multiple Tips: Back Mullins trio to fire in opening 33/1 treble

Alan has three picks for his opening day 2024 Cheltenham Festival multiple

It's the opening day of Cheltenham and Alan Dudman is eyeing a treble that pays [33/1] on the Betfair Sportsbook all trained by the master Willie Mullins...

Rachael Blackmore Superboost

Rachael has a good chance on Quilixios in the Arkle Chase at 14:10 today, and if you fancy the horse to run well you can back it at the super-boosted price of 6/42.50 (from 4/61.67) to finish in the top top four.

Cheltenham - 13:30 Supreme Novices' Hurdle - Back Tullyhill

Willie Mullins has six of the 12 for the Supreme and trying to oppose the trainer is not something I am eager to do for this, and while the each-way multiple will come into play for the rest of the week, field sizes are dictating to play towards the top of the market.

And what of Tullyhill's claims? I wouldn't be too concerned with his defeat at odds of 1/81.12 back in November at Punchestown. He ran over 2m6f for his first run of the season and didn't see it out, but he's come back with two facile wins at 2m and one most importantly he has heavy ground winning form.

He smashed a field at Naas on his second start by 7L and followed up with an even better performance at Punchestown in February showing a high cruising speed and a far more polished jumping display - indeed that was an area that looked greatly improved.

The 6yo looks a straightforward ride and considering he marked himself down as a high-class bumper horse, I am happy to go with him for the first leg today.

Cheltenham - 14:10 Arkle: Back Gaelic Warrior

It might seem dreadfully boring to go with another Mullins' favourite, but with Lossiemouth and State Man so short, we can back Gaelic Warrior at 7/42.75 here (from 3s yesterday) for the second leg and I agree with my colleague Daryl Carter who has tipped him as a 3pt NAP today.

Okay, he suffered a mishap at the Dublin Racing Festival, but I wouldn't want to be laying him off the back of that, and layers will no doubt be pinning their hopes on the left-handed conundrum, but that's never been something I look at too closely.

His jumping in the Faugheen at Limerick was breathtaking - just what you want to see in a 2m rookie chaser and the angle of the hood isn't a negative.

Cheltenham - 17:30 National Hunt Chase: Back Embassy Gardens

Two strong market leaders for Mullins (fast becoming a column for the trainer's lap of honour today) and preference is for the 2/13.00 on Embassy Gardens.

This race isn't what it used to be, and the old four-miler was always one I liked to have a bet in. However, it will still be a grueller given the likely testing conditions and it will hardly be a pleasant sight but Embassy Gardens is a perfect 2-2 this term over fences and looks certain to stay.

He's another who has jumped superbly this term and has the look of a horse who has really matured over fences, and with the likely stamina coming into play, he's today's third leg. And we'll all be congratulating Mullins on business as usual.

Back Embassy Gardens @ 2/13.00
