Sam the man for Peter Marsh glory
14:40 Haydock - Back Sam's Adventure @ BSP
The Tommy Whittle and Peter Marsh Chase races tend to be the two that I look forward to around Haydock, maybe as I am an old sentimentalist with the dashing grey Suny Bay.
For Saturday's renewal we have a Tommy Whittle winner lining up in a Peter Marsh in the shape of Sam's Adventure, and he rates a bet in the big race over fences.
He scored by four lengths last time and produced an excellent jumping display off a sound gallop, which in turn highlighted the seemingly unlimited stamina for the horse. That will be a big asset.
Sam's Adventure has been described as a good jumper that stays well, and with the ability to handle deep going, it's hard to pick holes in his chances.
Reivers can be the top lad on handicap bow
15:50 Haydock - Back Reivers Lad @ 6.05/1
It takes a bit more of a leap of faith with Reivers Lad for the 15:50, as he returns to the track after a mammoth absence of 772 days. But if anyone can, Reivers Lad can, as he overcame monster layoff with his last victory in 2018 - after 614 days.
Maybe he likes his holidays.
It's good to see him back on, though, as clearly he is very smart. As a useful northern novice hurdler in his younger days, he was deemed good enough to run in the Aintree Grade 1. Rated 130 in that sphere, he is well treated and could have been let in lightly here for his handicap debut over fences.
His only outing chasing was a win at Newcastle in quite taking fashion - jumping, travelling and staying well. He handles heavy ground too and is the bet at around 6.05/1.
