Today's Horse Racing Tips: Trust in Zakouski to return to form

Charlie Appleby and William Buick team up for one of Alan's selections on Saturday

Another second for Alan Dudman yesterday at Wetherby with Two For Gold. He's back on Flat duty for Saturday and is hoping Zakouski can return a win at Newmarket...

"This horse looked a colt of serious potential when beating Headman on debut in the winter of 2018, and went to the Craven the following spring with a big reputation."

Back Zakouski @ BSP in the 15:15 at Newmarket

Getalong looks a good price to win at Ayr again

14:17 Ayr - Back Better Getalong @ BSP

Not to be outdone on the jumping front, Ayr stages a good card on Saturday and the emphasis will be on stamina with heavy ground.

I like Better Getalong in the 14:17 - and stamina will be key over 3m.

The Nicky Richards-trained 9yo hasn't stood a lot of racing with just 11 runs over hurdles, but he does go well at Ayr and has won twice at the west of Scotland track when conditions have been testing.

Indeed, he looked a good novice when taking those two races in 2018.

He was last seen finishing second in the Craigie Cup from 131 over a shorter trip, but he stays so well he looks worth chancing over today's 3m. After all he's by Gold Well, and anything by that jumps' stallion tend to stay.

One-time Classic contender on the comeback trail

15:15 Newmarket - Back Zakouski @ BSP

The dying embers of the Flat season are flickering away, and we are set for a last hurrah with a one-time Classic contender in the shape of Zakouski.

This horse looked a colt of serious potential when beating Headman on debut in the winter of 2018, and went to the Craven the following spring with a big reputation. Unfortunately he lost some of that with a poor run, and lost something else too as he was gelded soon after.

That was his sole start of 2019.

He returned to the UK with an outing at Newmarket 22 days ago and looked rusty in a Group 2. He started slowly and was trapped out wide - whilst the first and second were always up with the pace. He briefly made a challenge and was looked after by the jockey inside the final two furlongs.

I'm taking the view he needed that run and this represents a significant drop in grade considering he won a Zabeel Mile in February.

His stablemate King's Command could make the running, but Zakouski could have a bit more class.
