Up Helly Aa King has won at Carlisle on his previous two visits, and Alan Dudman is backing the horse to score again in the north...
"But from a low weight as an improving horse, he can make the favourite work as both go up in distance."
King can serve it up to Dobbin's Rath
Rath An Iuir looks a nice type over fences for trainer Rose Dobbin, and whilst he won nicely at the track on his chase debut last time, he's a little short in the betting for me at 6/4, and I think we can get a run for our money with Up Helly Aa King.
He's very lightly-raced for his age and with a record of 3-5 over fences, he's consistent.
A lot went wrong last time at Ayr, but he still won comfortably on his reappearance over 2m5f, and he'll be happier switching right-handed today to Carlisle as it's a track he's already won at in both of his visits.
One of the Northern Lights qualifiers was landed in easy fashion last March and he won that in a canter by six lengths, whilst he jumped well at the venue as a novice the previous season.
He travels well in his races, so it might be worth throwing in some extra insurance with an in-running lay to trade your stake at around 2.206/5. But from a low weight as an improving horse, he can make the favourite work as both go up in distance.
Arqalina can add to her win record in Wales
Arqalina holds an unbeaten record at Ffos Las and can add to that in a fairly weak 3m Handicap Chase.
She doesn't mind testing conditions with a win in heavy under her belt, but show also has scored when good to soft, and with a clear day forecast, there's a possibility of drying ground although it tends to ride deep at the track most times. Hopefully we have all bases covered with the surface.
When winning, she cruises through her races and tends to stay well, and in a low-grade such as this, she looks ahead of her mark judged on those efforts over hurdles and fences.
Last time she was beaten 13 lengths on her comeback run for the season at Uttoxeter so she'll strip fitter for this. I am quite tempted to throw in The Dawn Man too for an each-way bet as he was 15/2 on the Sportsbook last night and his stamina could see him nick a place as he stays well.
However, Arqalina is a smooth traveller and is bidding for her third win here.
