Power to succeed with first try on the Southwell sand
12:35 Southwell - Back Sky Power @ 4.03/1
The headline selection couldn't quite fly home on Thursday at Lingfield, but neither did Grand Pianola yesterday at Southwell, thus securing the successful lay in the Place market at 1.845/6. And we head back to the Fibresand for the first bet of Friday.
I had Sky Power in my previous stint, and he was another to join the list of horses finishing second, but that wasn't a bad effort at Newcastle considering he was part of the chasing group as Naked Lass went off far too hard. Zabeel Star was the closer and just picked off Sky Power, but I'll give him another chance.
This doesn't look the strongest of races and as one of the younger horses as a 3yo given his choice pedigree, he could still offer more. I was pleased he wasn't as green at Newcastle as he was at Windsor, so it's all going in the right direction. He's a strapping horse, and I can see him galloping strongly at the end.
One other plus is the fact he's by Fastnet Rock, and he's got a good record as a sire of winners on the Fibresand at 18%.
Moore golden spell can continue with Editeur
12:45 Newbury - Back Editeur Du Gite @ 4.03/1
Gary and Joshua Moore could hardly be in better form. Well if you like recency bias anyway as the rider bagged four winners at Lingfield yesterday, with Moore senior a hat-trick. Hopefully they can continue with the potentially exciting Editeur Du Gite who lines up in a Handicap Chase for novices.
He showed his first bit of form in the UK last time from the front when finishing second to Sully Doc AA at Ascot over 2m3f. He was gunned out aggressively to make the running and put in some fine jumps. For such a big horse, he looked as though he was skipping over the fences save for an untidy effort at the last - but he could have been tired.
Sully Doc AA was well treated and the pair were 11 lengths clear of the third, so it's hard to knock the form, but I loved the way that Editeur Du Gite went from the front with plenty of zest.
The angle of the drop in trip to the bare 2m is a positive.
