Aaron Rai was backed at a high of 559/1560.00 on the Betfair Exchange before the start of the US PGA Championship which he went on to win at Aronimink on Sunday.
Steve Rawlings explains in his tournament round-up why, despite being an enormous price, the Englishman's victory was not a huge surprise to those who follow golf.
Rai won a title on the DP World Tour six months ago and subsequently was in contention at Myrtle Beach a week before the US PGA. After sealing his three shot victory at Aronimink, he will be hoping this year's US PGA will be the first of many major titles.
His nearest challengers were third round leader Alex Smalley and the Spaniard Jon Rahm.
Scheffler 5/1 to complete Grand Slam at US Open
Rai is 70/171.00 to follow up by winning next month's US Open where Scottie Scheffler is the 5/16.00 favourite to triumph and complete a career Grand Slam.
The US Open will take place at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York from 18-21 June.
The last time the tournament was played there Brooks Koepka won in 2018. JJ Spaun won the US Open in 2025 at Oakmont in Pennsylvania.
Scheffler finished -2 at Aronimink where he was defending the US PGA title and was tied for 14th.
Prior to that he was second at three consecutive events, including the US Masters, which was won for the second year in a row by Rory McIlroy.
Scheffler managed to win major titles in 2024 and 2025 as well as the Masters in 2022. His best performance at a US Open came that year when he was tied for second.
McIlroy US PGA challenge bodes well for rest of season
The Northern Irishman was in contention at Aronimink, finishing -4 and tied for seventh. His performance showed that he intends to build on his latest Masters victory and challenge for other major titles in 2026.
McIlroy is 8/19.00 second favourite to win the US Open next month.
Before the players head to Shinnecock Hills in June there is another month of golf to looked forward to and our experts will provide in-depth previews for the PGA Tour and DP World Tour - starting with this week's CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
