Ecuador v Senegal
Tuesday 15:00 (Live on ITV4)
Ecuador take on Senegal in Group A's final round of matches. The South Americans just need to avoid defeat to go through to the Last 16, while the Africans probably need all three points to progress.
Ecuador have made the knockout stages of the World Cup just once before (2006) and - thanks largely to Enner Valencia - have a great chance to get there again. Having beaten Qatar 2-0 in the tournament's opening game, Gustavo Alfaro's men came from behind to draw 1-1 with group favourites the Netherlands in their second match. They start as favourites to win their third outing.
Captain Valencia has scored all three of Ecuador's goals so far and looks set to start this match, despite being carried off with a knee injury against the Dutch just four days ago.
That match with the Netherlands was unusual for Ecuador because it saw both teams find the back of the net. Coming into Qatar 2022, Ecuador served up just two match goals across six friendlies, beating Nigeria and Cabo Verde 1-0, and drawing 0-0 with Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Iraq. Either of those results would suit them today.
In competitive matches, both teams failed to score in 9/18 of Ecuador's World Cup qualifiers, with 11/18 ending with Under 2.5 Goals. With no pressing need to win this match, we'd expect the Tricolors to keep things tight again here.
Without their star forward Sadio Mane, Senegal were shut out by the Netherlands 0-2 in their opener, then beat a poor Qatar side 3-1. The Lions of Teranga will have to chase all three points at some stage today, but it's not clear they have the quality to break down Ecuador's robust backline.
We'll use the Sportsbook's Bet Builder to put the Ecuador And Draw double chance together with Under 2.5 Goals in a bet that pays out at 1.9210/11.
