Formed in 1898, Portsmouth's home matches have been played at Fratton Park since the club was formed. With 193 league goals between 1946 and 1960, Peter Harris remains Pompey's leading goalscorer of all time. During his spell at the club he led them to back-to-back league titles.

Twice top-flight champions of England, in 1949 and 1950, the club has also won the FA Cup on two occasions, firstly in 1939 and then most recently in 2008.
That second win came during what was a relatively successful decade for the club. They spent five seasons in the Premier League, the highlight coming when Harry Redknapp led the club to FA Cup glory at the end of the 2008 season, when the club secured their first FA Cup crown in 69 years, beating Cardiff City 1-0 in the final.
However, since their last FA Cup triumph, Portsmouth have been on a downward spiral, going from playing the likes of AC Milan in the UEFA Cup to finding themselves in League Two after spending much of the intervening years in administration and suffering three relegations.
After putting together a squad packed with international talent, relegation from the Premier League saw the club forced to sell the likes of Jermain Defoe, Glen Johnson Peter Crouch, Sylvain Distin, Kevin Prince-Boateng and Niko Kranjčar in a bid to keep the club afloat.
Following relegation to the Football League Championship in 2010, just two years later they were again relegated to League One, and again a year later down to League Two. They began the 2013-2014 season in the fourth flight of the English Football League for the first time since the late 1970s.
Yet, despite going through so much strife in recent years, there are signs that the future will be vaguely positive. Portsmouth became the largest fan-owned football club in England when the Pompey Supporters Trust (PST) successfully purchased Fratton Park in April 2013 and took control of the club.
After spending so many seasons fearing for the future of their beloved club, Portsmouth fans are now able to look to the future with a degree of optimism. First up for the club will be focusing on climbing back up the leagues and giving the fans something to cheer about after such a dismal few years.
