Manchester City

Born as St Mark's back in 1880, it wasn't until 1894 that the name Manchester City came about. From humble origins and tumultuous history, the club have gone on to establish themselves as one of the dominant teams in English football. Maine Road was their football cathedral, but due to capacity limitations, the club moved into the City of Manchester Stadium in 2003, and the 47,805 capacity stadium is now called home.

City are one of the most successful clubs in FA Cup history, with five wins to their name. They also lay claim to League Cups and three First Division titles. Their latest top-flight victory, in the 2011-2012 season, came about thanks to one of the best footballing moments of all time. Going into the final fixture of the season against lowly QPR, City simply had to win. Fast-forward to the 91st minute and City were losing 2-1. However, cometh the hour cometh the man, and in the 92nd minute Edin Dzeko towered in a header to level it. Almost instantly after the restart, Sergio Aguero fired his shot past Paddy Kenny, giving Manchester City the lead and the title. What makes their victory even sweeter, is that arch-rivals Manchester United were celebrating at Sunderland in the belief that they were champions.

With the influx of capital from Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, City have been able to buy star players since 2008. Robinho deserves a mention, since he was the first big player signed in this era, signing for the club on deadline day for £32,500,000.

Midfielder Alan Oakes has played more games than any other City player, 564 in total. Paul Dickov may not be as glamorous a name as Sergio Aguero, but alongside the Argentine, he has scored the most important goal in the club's history. In the 1999 Division Two play-off final, Dickov equalized against Gillingham late on to take the game to penalties. City won that shootout and Dickov is regarded as one of the biggest legends in the club's history.

They contest the Manchester Derby with arch-rivals Manchester United. The first time the two clubs faced off in the highest division came back in 1906, and City won that game 3-0. Their greatest success against United came back in 2011, when they beat their rivals 6-1 at Old Trafford. However, United are leading in head-to-head victories, with 69 to City's 45. Players such as Carlos Tevez, Andy Cole and Peter Schmeichel have all played for both clubs.
