"Walsall are 17th in the table. Travelling to teams now in the bottom half, Wigan are W6-D0-L1"
Wigan gave a good account of themselves in the FA Cup last weekend and can give an even better one in the West Midlands tonight, says Tobias Gourlay
Walsall v Wigan
Wednesday 19:45
Only one defence was shattered at Vale Park last night, so it's our bet that's left in tatters. This evening we're stepping up a level. Wigan travel to Walsall for the day's only League One game and we fancy the Latics will enjoy the trip.
Third in the overall table, Paul Cook's men are the best away side in the leage. They are a mighty W11-D3-L2 on the road this term, winning seven of the most recent nine. Thanks to their FA Cup run, they have games in hand on the top two, but must win this one to put the pressure on.
With that sort of motivation, we fancy them to bounce straight back from Sunday's defeat to Southampton. Walsall are 17th in the table. Travelling to teams now in the bottom half, Wigan are W6-D0-L1. A 3-1 defeat at Southend aside, they've won those games by a combined 18-1.
Walsall, meanwhile, have lost 4/5 at home and away. The board have reacted by bringing ex-player Dean Keates back to the club as manager. The old boy has some work to do: his new charges most recently lost 3-0 to relegation-threatened Rochdale. He might make an impact, but we don't think it will be felt tonight.
