Football Bet of the Day: Strugglers to put on a show in Scotland

St Johnstone and St Mirren can take Scottish minds off recent international disappointment

Tobias Gourlay reckons defences will sin as the Saints travel to the Jags in the Scottish Premiership tonight

St Johnstone v St Mirren

We fancied a low-scoring draw in Scandinavia yesterday. We got a high-scoring draw. But the bit we bet on was the draw. So we walk away with a plump winner.

We return to domestic action today. North of the border, St Johnstone host St Mirren in a Scottish Premiership match tonight and we're more optimistic than most that the bottom-of-the-table visitors can make a game of it.

Ninth-placed St Johnstone are W4-D4-L6 at McDiarmid Park this season. Most recently, they have lost 5/6 on home turf and conceded at least twice in 6/7. At the other end, Tommy Wright's men have scored in 10/10 hosting teams from outside the current top four.

Oran Kearney's visitors are a predictably poor W1-D4-L7 on the road this term. However, their last two away trips have brought score draws at third-placed Aberdeen and fifth-placed Hearts. The Saints have actually scored in 7/9 on the road - only Rangers and Celtic have stopped them. At the other end, of course, they have been feeble: just one clean sheet in 12.

All told, this looks like two sides with weak defences and slightly-better-than-expected attacks going head to head. We fancy both teams can score and at 2.226/5 the price is too big to ignore.
