Football Bet of the Day: Emelec to be served up on a Plate

We picked the wrong AFC Champions League game this morning. FC Seoul 1 Urawa Reds 0 was the only one of the four that stayed below the line. To keep our own heads above water, we're switching continents to South America tonight.

In the last couple of years, River Plate are W6-D1-L0 playing at home in the continent-wide Copa Libertadores. They've won four of those games by at least a couple of goals and should be confident of more success this evening.

The next lambs to arrive in the slaughterhouse are Emelec, an Ecuadorian outfit that, over the last five years, have gone W1-D1-L15 on the road in South America's premier club competition.

The odds might be short, but the numbers are compelling. River Plate to triumph and, just because a few of Emelec's most recent defeats have been only narrow, we're playing safe with the straight home win.
