Bayern won every single game since caretaker manager Hansi Flick was given the job on a permanent basis towards the end of last season, and they're up against a Schalke side which endured a difficult end to the 2019/20 campaign. Bayern won this game 5-0 last season, and while it has the potential to be as one-sided again, the opening round of fixtures doesn't always throw up such devastating scorelines.

Arminia Bielefeld lost just twice last season as they won the 2. Bundesliga, but Uwe Neuhaus' side have a tough task straight off the bat with a trip to Frankfurt. Hoffenheim ended last season with an eye-catching 4-0 win at Borussia Dortmund, and have welcomed talented young Brazilian forward Klauss back into the fold after an impressive year on loan with LASK. They take on a Köln side without a win in any of their last 10 Bundesliga games, and will hope for a repeat of last season's victory at RheinEnergieStadion, with Infogol predicting a 63% chance of both sides scoring.

Stuttgart v Freiburg
Saturday, 14:30
Watch on Betfair Live Video

Stuttgart managed to bounce straight back to the top flight after suffering relegation in the 2018/19 play-offs, albeit with a managerial change along the way, and Pellegrino Matarazzo has a squad capable of settling back into Bundesliga life. They begin against a Freiburg side which will need to find a way of coping without Robin Koch, one of their standout defensive performers last season, and Infogol gives the home side a 45% chance of beating last season's eighth place finishers.

Union to kick off with three points

Union Berlin v Augsburg
Saturday, 14:30

Augsburg only narrowly stayed up last season, winning just one of their last six games as they looked blunt in front of goal, but their record wasn't too far away from that of mid-table Union in Infogol's xG table. Urs Fischer's team are given a 43% chance of victory, after winning the corresponding fixture 2-0 last season, but there's every chance of the visitors getting on the scoresheet this time around.

Upwardly-mobile Hertha can start with a victory

Werder Bremen v Hertha Berlin
Saturday, 14:30
Watch on Betfair Live Video

Hertha picked up some impressive results after last season's restart, not least a 4-0 win over neighbours Union, and the stability offered by Bruno Labbadia in the dugout can carry them to a better finish than last season's 10th place. They travel to the Weserstadion to face a Werder side who stayed up by the skin of their teeth last season, winning on the final day to avoid automatic relegation and scraping through a play-off against Heidenheim, and Infogol's model backs an away win here.

Dortmund to pip Gladbach once again

Borussia Dortmund v Borussia Mönchengladbach
Saturday, 17:30
Watch on Betfair Live Video

Dortmund secured two narrow victories over Borussia Mönchengladbach last season, ensuring they finished just four points clear of Marco Rose's side in the top four battle, and both sides with fancy their chances of finishing in the Champions League spots once more. Lucien Favre has added to his squad with the impressive youngster Jude Bellingham, among others, while Gladbach showed they're ready for the new campaign with an 8-0 win in the first round of the cup. Expect both sides to score at Signal Iduna Park, but the host should have enough to earn all three points.

RBL to coast to opening day victory

RB Leipzig v Mainz
Sunday, 14:30
Watch on Betfair Live Video

The departure of Timo Werner has been a big part of RB Leipzig's summer, but Julian Nagelsmann's side showed in the Champions League that there's life after last season's top scorer. They open against a Mainz side which conceded eight at Red Bull Arena last season, and it may be a case of damage limitation for last season's 13th-place finishers.

Leverkusen to suffer early setback after losing key men

Wolfsburg v Bayer Leverkusen
Sunday, 17:00
Watch on Betfair Live Video

After narrowly missing out on fourth place last season, Leverkusen also have to make do without Kai Havertz and Kevin Volland, who contributed 22 of their 61 league goals last term. Peter Bosz side have added Patrik Schick to their ranks, but would have preferred an easier opener than a trip to a Wolfsburg side who will themselves be hopeful of breaking into the top four themselves. Infogol's model can't find much to choose between the sides, but home advantage may be the crucial factor.
