Tuesday's Championship tips
Preston are now winless in eight, and Graham Alexander's arrival has failed to ignite an upturn in results. 'Grezza' is loved by the Deepdale faithful, and he will be given time by the fans, many of whom acknowledge that this isn't his squad and he is hamstrung by the poor recruitment which took place this summer.
The former defender tends to make his sides fairly tough to beat, and they have been slightly more resolute at home. They haven't conceded a first-half goal here since September 1st, and the earliest they've conceded in their last three home games has been the 79th minute.
Sheffield United edged past Wrexham on Friday night, although they weren't particularly challenged by an out-of-sorts Wrexham outfit, who had just 15 touches in their box.
They also found it fairly straightforward at Ashton Gate in their previous away game. They will have to be up for the fight, but there may be a lack of quality in the final third for both teams.
The stats don't particularly reflect well on Stoke's recent away performances, yet the Potters are picking up points on their travels. They've conceded just two goals in their last three away matches, both of which came in injury time. Mark Robins' side are well-organised and they should make it hard for the hosts.
Blackburn stunk out the place on Saturday as they collapsed in South Wales. It was a forgettable performance from Tony Mowbray's side, who could easily have conceded five or six to a rampant Swansea side. They failed to create anything of note at the weekend, although they do tend to be more efficient at home.
Nevertheless, Stoke look far more disciplined and should edge this.
Charlton were easily defeated by Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, extending their winless run to ten matches. Nathan Jones is under increasing pressure and he cannot afford to oversee another defeat here.
Under the Welshman, they have become renowned for being tough to beat and have taken points off several high-flyers. Unfortunately, they seem to have lost that robustness and defensive errors have been creeping into their game.
Bolton have been free-scoring recently, but they've also been free-conceding too. Steven Schumacher made changes for the game at the weekend, possibly prioritising this midweek trip to London. Oddly, despite claiming two 0-0s on their travels this season, their remaining four matches have featured 20 goals and they conceded five big chances at home to Bristol City at the weekend.
Charlton should be able to find a way through, potentially with set-pieces.
John Eustace continues to feel the pressure as his side slumped to yet another defeat at the weekend. They conceded an xGA of 4.12 to Millwall, allowing the Lions to take 21 shots and rack up 41 touches in their box. They were 3-0 down in the opening 17 minutes, and although they did show a bit of fight in the second half, their makeshift defence, which includes the unfit Jack Robinson and winger Ryan Hedges, simply cannot be trusted.
Norwich are still giving up plenty of chances, but they are scoring goals once again. They have netted six times in their last two matches and should be far too dangerous for the leaky hosts.
Paris Maghoma has netted twice in his last two games and can be hugely influential here.

Portsmouth's unbeaten run was extended on Saturday as they held Burnley to a goalless draw. John Mousinho's side rode their luck at times, and this is a quick turnaround following a long trip home. It wouldn't be a surprise if some lethargy kicked in, particularly during the second half.
Nevertheless, Pompey are now unbeaten in five, and have conceded just four times during that sequence.
Swansea bounced back from their 5-0 loss by thumping Blackburn 4-0 at the weekend. They are far stronger at home, yet they remain a little inconsistent on their travels. With another away game to come at the weekend, I think they will be fairly satisfied to return to Wales with a point here.
QPR didn't play too badly at the weekend at St. Mary's, yet they were unable to thwart the Saints on the counter-attack. The West Londoners are having a decent season, and they are particularly effective at home. They have an xG of 5.2 across their last two matches here, and Richard Kone is playing with confidence once again.
They've netted 2+ goals in four of their last five here and were fairly unlucky to narrowly lose to table-toppers Middlesbrough.
Burnley were unlucky at the weekend, dropping points at Fratton Park. Back-to-back away trips are far from ideal for the new management, and this could be a tough 90 minutes for the struggling Clarets. They have conceded 4+ goals in four of their first six away trips, and they could struggle to contain the lively hosts.

Watford slipped to another defeat at the weekend despite finding themselves 2-0 up at Carrow Road. Their record on the road is hopeless, but they have been better at Vicarage Road and have shown some flair going forward here. They've managed to find the net in all but one of their home matches this season, and I suspect that they have enough individual talent to find the back of the net in this one.
Lincoln were beaten by Birmingham at the weekend, yet they carved out a fair few chances. After keeping three consecutive clean sheets on the road, they have conceded five times in their last two. Nevertheless, they are always likely to create opportunities and this Watford defence will take a fairly hands-off approach.
Birmingham got back to winning ways at Sincil Bank at the weekend. August Priske returned to the XI and netted twice. He looks extremely sharp and although his fitness is likely to be monitored during this hectic period, he is likely to be given another start on Tuesday night.
The Blues are full of goals at St. Andrews, netting 14 times at this venue. They should be able to take advantage of a Millwall side who have struggled to keep clean sheets, particularly on the road.
The Lions made a fast start when hosting Derby at the weekend, but they will not receive that kind of generosity here. That was just their second win in eight, and only away victory since the opening weekend came at struggling PNE.
They could play their part in an entertaining contest, but they are likely to concede a couple.
Back Over 1.5 Birmingham Team Goals
West Brom have responded to consecutive defeats by taking ten points from a possible 12. Three of their last four matches have been on the road, and the squad will be on a high after leaving the London Stadium with maximum points at the weekend.
James Morrison has managed his squad superbly, and having rested Jimmy-Jay Morgan, he has ensured that the striker has returned fitter and fresher. He was superb on Saturday.
WBA have a fairly small squad, so this fixture will be a test of their strength and fitness. Saints have the luxury of rotation and can afford to make wholesale changes, whereas the Baggies may be limited to just one or two.
Southampton thumped QPR with some devastating counter-attacks at the weekend. They are very impressive at St. Mary's, but they were excellent against West Ham ten days ago.
With seven goals in their last two outings, they should be able to get on the scoresheet at least once.

Wednesday's Championship tips
Cardiff are very effective at home, and their xG numbers are eye-catching. They have produced 6.7 xG across their last two outings here, and they remain unbeaten in front of their own fans. Brian Barry Murphy's side are always likely to create chances here, and although they haven't faced anyone above sixth here yet, they should be able to go toe-to-toe with the high-flying Hammers.
Nuno is coming under increasing pressure, and there was plenty of anger directed towards the former Wolves boss on social media following Saturday's home loss to West Brom. His counter-attacking approach does tend to work more effectively on the road, and this match-up is likely to favour the visitors.
They should be able to carve out a few opportunities and use quick transitions to their advantage. Cardiff's defence is young and can be exposed, so this game should contain a few goals.

Wrexham vs Middlesbrough - Boro to maintain their position at the summit
Phil Parkinson's position has come under increased scrutiny this week with Wrexham slumping to yet another disappointing defeat on Friday night. The Welsh side just aren't creating enough meaningful opportunities, and although he has achieved legendary status at the club, many fans believe that it may now be time to find a manager who can take them to the next level.
This will be a tough task for a team that produced just 0.4 xG when hosting West Brom a few weeks ago and have drawn back-to-back blanks on their travels.
Middlesbrough continue to shine. Their 3-0 victory over Charlton was remarkably straightforward, and they sit comfortably top of the table. Kim Hellberg may opt to rotate for this fixture, although Saturday's trip to Watford may be a better opportunity to rest a few of the big hitters.
They have created 6.7 xG from their last two away games, and they should be able to continue where they left off. With 13 goals in their last four, they shouldn't have too many issues collecting maximum points.
Back Middlesbrough to Win
Bristol City vs Wolves - Another home disappointment at Ashton Gate
Bristol City picked up their first victory since September 18th with a last-gasp victory against Bolton on Saturday afternoon. The Robins have a 3-3-1 record on their travels, and although Michael Skubala's style of football hasn't proved to be universally popular, it is proving very effective on the road.
At home, they have struggled to create opportunities and score goals, which has left many fans understandably frustrated. They've failed to score in four of their six matches here, and they will need to show far more creativity on Wednesday night.
Wolves haven't been completely convincing yet, but they do have a knack for picking up points. They're now four unbeaten and beat Burnley at Turf Moor recently. They won't find this easy, but they should be able to leave with something to show for their efforts.
