Pietersen will bring drive to England

The panel began by discussing Kevin Pietersen's appointment as a specialist mentor to players in the white ball set-up.

Michael Vaughan: "He's been very vocal and had a real pop at the team in India before the Champions Trophy, so they've been willing to appoint someone who has had a pop at them not too long ago. And I like that. There was no one during my time with England that worked harder than Kevin Pietersen, so he'll definitely bring that drive to the team...

"When I worked with Kev, I thought he was an absolute diamond, and I couldn't have asked for anyone better in the team."

Alastair Cook: "As a sounding board, he'll be quite valuable to that side in terms of his role, but no one really knows how good he'll be at it...

"If Kevin sees something he doesn't like, he'll say it. Kevin and Baz are mavericks, so they'll have differing opinions. Managing that relationship is key because if they start having different ideas, that leaves Harry Brook in the middle."

Don't rip off England Ashes fans

The podcast team expressed strong views on ticket prices for next summer's Ashes Test series in England.

Michael Vaughan: "We know that the demand for an Ashes series is huge, but my problem in it is that this ECB have stipulated over the last few years that they want cricket to be the most inclusive sport in the country.

"There's not a men's Test match up north next year, so how's that inclusive? And ticket prices going to £167.50 to sit next to a giraffe, a beer snake and probably Donald Trump.. you're telling me that's inclusive to everyone?!" 

David Lloyd: "If it's inclusive, that Hollies stand is for the people and so it has to be around £60 to go in there and it'd be rammed and a great atmosphere.

 Michael Vaughan: "I understand the monetary side of it, but don't say you're going to be the most inclusive sport in the country because those prices aren't. And not playing up north just isn't inclusive either. 

"Let's be honest, those ticket prices are for a middle-class, middle-aged man who can afford a day out at the cricket." 

David Lloyd: "The authorities would say they can justify it because it will be full."  

Michael Vaughan: That's not my point. I know the Ashes will be full, but don't rip off the fans."
