Sunrisers Hyderabad v Rajasthan Royals IPL team news
Sunrisres Hyderabad are one win from four and are likely to find the rest of IPL a struggle unless they can solve significant bowling issues. It's all well and good having some terrific hitters but they are such a one-dimensional outfit that they appear to be left with only one option at the toss: chase.
They have to put teams under pressure in the powerplay going after a total as opposition are reasonably relaxed with a big chase. Punjab barely broke sweat chasing 219. An effort fo 210-220 feels like 180-190 with this SRH attack.
The return of Pat Cummins might help. There has been some suggestion on social media that his selection is imminent after leaving the squad for a scan on his back.
Possible XI: Abhishek, Head (sub Unadkat), Kishan, Klaasen, Reddy, Verma, Arora, Dubey, Shivang, Malinga
Rajasthan Royals have four wins from four. An even-money record over their remaining ten matches should see them finish in the top two. But they don't look like a side who have to fear complacency. Their high-energy approach is dismantling teams.
They completely outclassed a very good RCB team with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi producing more incredible hitting. Ravi Bishnoi is their star performer with the ball, subbing in and out with Sooryavanshi.
Possible XI: Jaiswal, Sooryvanshi (sub Bishnoi), Jurel, Hetmyer, Parag, Ferreira, Jadeja, Archer, Burger, Sandeep
Sunrisers Hyderabad v Rajasthan Royals IPL pitch report
The Hyderabad surface is usually good for batting. But there is one strip on the square that is bowler friendly. And it is often used when you least expect it. The good news is that it looked as though it was the surface deployed for SRH-LSG. The hosts could manage only 156. Quite why that track would have been rolled out when Sunrisers badly needed a confidence boost is anyone's guess. They have to give the batters the best chance.
Taking the cheapest total match runs line may make sense. Sunrisres are over 190.5 at 5/61.84 with Sportsbook. Batting first Sunrisers would have a 20-over line in excess of 200 on the Exchange.
Rajasthan are 1.758/11 favourites to make it five wins in a row. That's probably slightly too generous for a complete team taking on one which can do only a single discipline well. If Cummins is named in the XI, though, we would expect Royals to drift a bit so it might pay to wait until the team news.
The other strategy is to wait until the toss and then the break. If Royals have to chase it is probable they would be available at bigger numbers. As stated, Hyderabad can bat. Yet their bowling is so poor we would expect Royals to be capable of getting anything up to 230.
Sunrisres lack world-class spin and death bowling expertise. Even their skip, Ishan Kishan, has lamented their lack of bowling options. They are hugely reliant on Jaydev Unadkat, their one proven performer.
Travis Head looks to have found some hitting form and he will likely be energised by the challenge of facing Jofra Archer again. The 16/54.20 that he top scores for SRH has some appeal. Sooryavanshi is 7/24.50 for top bat after being pipped by Dhruv Jurel. The top-rated bet, however, is Jaydev Unadkat for top SRH bowler. He should be the clear favourite on ability and win rate. And there is very little for him to outskill at 10/34.33.
