Punjab Kings v Rajasthan Royals IPL team news
Punjab Kings remain unbeaten. And it's tricky to see how they will slip up after they chased even 264 with ease. Delhi couldn't even delay that defeat until the last over.
As stated previously their batting depth is the key. Priyansh Arya and Prab Singh can afford to be recklessly aggressive because they have faith in what is to come. Marco Jansen and Xavier Bartlett are at Nos 8 and 9. Marcus Stoinis hasn't even been required that much and was carded at No 7 against Delhi. Yuz Chahal is subbing in and out with Nehal Wadhera,
Probable XI: Prabhsimran, Arya, Connolly, Shreyas, Shashank, Wadhera (sub Chahal), Stoinis, Jansen, Bartlett, Vyshak, Arshdeep
Rajasthan Royals' storming start is becoming a distant memory after they sufferd their third defeat in four. Two of those losses both came against Sunrisers but the four-wicket reverse to Kolkata is the one which will have alarm bells ringing.
Against Sunrisers last time they failed to defend 228 on a flat surface. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's century set them up for a massive total but the acceleration just wasn't there in the death overs, something which could become an issue.
The chase wasn't even close with Sunrisers getting home with nine balls to spare. Only briefly were the Royals in the hunt with the first-over dismissal of Travis Head.
Possible XI: Jaiswal (sub Bishnoi), Sooryvanshi, Jurel, Parag, Hetmyer, Ferreira, Jadeja, Archr, Deshpande, Burger, Brijesh
Punjab Kings v Rajasthan Royals IPL pitch report
There had been doubts whether the New Chandigarh surface was conducive to Punjab's all-action batting style. Previously it had been a little slow and difficult to score big on. It was not a huge surprise in the first game this season, then, that Gujarat could only muster 162 and the hosts laboured to the target with five balls left.
Since, however, they have been playing on a road. Sunrisers posted a losing 219 and Punjab smashed 254 against Lucknow who also reached 200. It is fair to reckon that runs are in the offing again. Sportsbook think so, too, with a first-innings runs line at 205.5.
To that end Punjab may be the best wager to bust a total runs line of 200.5. You have one hit in your favour if they bat first and the Royals have been reliably quick on pitches which suit.
Punjab Kings are 8/111.73 favourite for this one with Royals 11/102.11. It is no surprise the Betfair odds setters are so keen on the hosts. Indeed, Royals' inability to keep things tight against Sunrisers is instructive and a probable strong pointer as to how this match could go.
Derivative wins for Punjab will catch the eye. They are 10/111.91 to win with both teams hitting 170. That sort of total is an absolute gimme. Alternatively there is [6/4] that Punjab win and hit the most sixes. No team can really live with their power. They are averaging just shy of 15 per game. Royals are at nine.
To that end the 10/111.91 that Punjab hit the most sixes might be the smartest play aof all. It takes the result out of the equation.
Back Punjab to win & most 6s
On flat wickets, betting milestones for batters instead of taking the risk on one to outscore the rest is advised. Jaiswal has appeal at 7/42.75 to score 40 or more.
A point of order, by the way on player performance bets for those who could be subbed in or out. Bets are not void if that occurs so there is obvious appeal to shorting a player who might not field. Jasiwal, for example, didn't against Sunrisers so essentially you could be selling his runs at 33.5. Sooryavanshi has also been subbed out previously and his line is at 27.5. it's not a strategy for a flat pitch but keep in mind going forward.
