This year's switch to playing in the U.A.E. was always liable to mean changes from the usual IPL dynamics and, whilst it is still early in the season, these two sides could be a case in point.

Heavyweights off to slow starts

CSK and Sunrisers are two of the heavyweights. The former have never missed the play-offs while the latter have made the last four series. After three matches this term, they fill the two bottom places.

Both were particularly effective at their home grounds and losing that advantage could prove critical. However on the flipside, they are both well equipped to thrive once these Gulf pitches start to really favour the spinners. Their time will come.

Chennai bowlers are particularly strong

I don't have any worries at all about either bowling attack. CSK have a luxury of riches - Josh Hazlewood, Imran Tahir, Lungi Ngidi, Ravi Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Piyush Chawla.

Sunrisers' bowlers have made the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium something of a fortress and they also have the quality to contain scoring. Rashid Khan has started the season well in less than perfect conditions. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Nabi are also formidable and Jason Holder will get a game soon.

Sunrisers lack batting depth

With bat, Chennai have the edge. Sunrisers are heavily reliant on a top-three consisting of David Warner, Jonny Bairstow and last time, Kane Williamson. Lose early wickets and they'll be in trouble. Note as the big scores have piled up, their best so far is just 162.

Chennai might be considered a bit long in the tooth but they've already hit 200 in defeat. In MS Dhoni, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo and Mitchell Santner, they have superb finishers on their books to propel them to winning totals.

Chennai entitled to start favourites

Dhoni's men dominate the head-to-head record 10-3, including five of the last six. I think they're entitled to start 10/111.9 favourites here but am wary about the toss. All six matches at Dubai so far have been won by the team batting first.

That trend has looked pretty reliable given the way the pitches have played but note, the history of this ground in the Pakistan Super League suggests chasers have the edge.

This toss fear means I'll once again employ my '25% rule' on Chennai. Rather than betting pre-toss, place an in-play order at 25% higher than the starting odds - in this case that means 7/52.4.

Granted, this system can be frustrating. When employed on Punjab, they never drifted to the target before winning. We were matched on Mumbai, but they lost. Keep the faith - the system makes sense in T20.

Unders preferred for runs

Six matches this term produced two 200-plus First Innings Runs totals and nothing worse than 157. That average is bound to come down and 174 proved plenty last time.

Given the strength both sides have with the ball, this could be a good time to back 'Unders'. Try laying the 160 and 150 bands at 8/131.6 and 30/1001.3.

Two outsiders for top bat

Equally, I'm looking for bigger odds down the batting order in hope of early wickets. For Chennai, Kedar Jadav is reasonably priced at 17/2 from number five.

For Sunrisers, Rashid Khan is always worth a small poke at 40/1. He is explosive from the outset and therefore sometimes promoted up the order.
