Daniel Vettori is a professional cricket player who was born in Auckland in 1979.

He plays as an all-rounder but is renowned for his slow left-arm orthodox bowling. In Test cricket he has taken over 300 wickets and scored 3000 runs with the bat. He is only the eighth player in history to achieve that feat.
Vettori is New Zealand's most capped Test cricketer, beating the previous record set by Stephen Fleming. He led the side from 2007 until 2011.
After starting his professional career with the Northern Districts in 1996, he was soon called up to the national team where he made his debut at the age of just 18 against England in a home series.
A couple of months later, Vettori joined the one-day squad and featured for the first time against Sri Lanka on March 25.
The best figures of the bowler's career came at Eden Park against Australia in 2000. He was able to finish with 7/87. That was after he had taken five wickets in the first innings of the match.
The orthodox bowler has taken more than 10 wickets twice in a Test match. He is the only New Zealand player to do so. He did it for the second time in a game against Bangladesh in Chittagong in 2006 with six wickets in each innings.
With the bat, Vettori has been able to record six centuries in Test cricket. His first was against Pakistan at Seddon Park in Hamilton. His unbeaten 137 came in a draw against the visitors. That was slightly bettered in 2009 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo when he reached 140, which is still his highest score to date in first-class cricket.
Vettori has been involved in the Indian Premier League since it was launched in 2008. For the first three seasons of the Twenty20 competition, he played for Delhi Daredevils when they reached the semi-finals in 2008 and 2009.
In 2011 Royal Challengers Bangalore paid US$550,000 for his services as he became an attractive figure in the format of the game. They were runners-up in his first season with them, while in 2012 and 2013 they failed to get out of the group stages. Vettori is now the head coach of the franchise.
He is also a member of Brisbane Heat who play in the Big Bash League in Australia, which is also Twenty20 cricket.
