England v India

Pathetic England
Jos Buttler has had a poor start as permanent white-ball captain. So too new coach Matthew Mott. You're not playing the Netherlands now, chaps.
The pair have suffered three defeats out of four against India and although it is early days, the comparisons between how Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum started with the Test squad will sting.
What has been surprising about the manner of the defeats is the awful batting. Being bowled out for 110 at The Oval was pathetic.
They also flopped twice in the T20 series.
It makes little sense. And it is particularly concerning because the bowling unit is second-string and unlikely to trouble high-calibre batting units. In an effort to lengthen the batting, Matt Parkinson may well be left out for all-rounder Craig Overton.
Probable XI: Roy, Bairstow, Root, Stokes, Buttler, Livingstone, Moeen, C Overton, Willey, Carse, Topley
Bumrah boom
India must have been shocked at the ease with which they destroyed the world champions. A ten-wicket margin was their first since beating Zimbabwe in 2016.
Jasprit Bumrah was the architect of the victory. His six wickets blew England away. It is hard to claim that the pitch was to blame considering Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan rattled off the victory with 188 balls left (their third biggest success by such a metric).
There was no place for Virat Kohli at The Oval. He was reported to have a mild groin strain. It would seem unlikely that he returns for this one with such a fast turnaround. Arshdeep Singh is also struggling with a side problem so an unchanged India XI looks likely.
There are doubts about Hardik Pandya's ability to bowl so India will hope to get away with only a few overs from their all-rounder. The balance of the XI is good if he was fully fit but Mohammad Shami is a place too high at No 8.
Probable XI: Rohit, Dhawan, Iyer, Yadav, Pant, Hardik, Jadeja, Shami, Bumrah, Chahal, Krishna
Pitch report
In the last five innings in ODI at Lord's there have only been two scores of more than 250. That sequence includes the World Cup tournament. We take such stats with a pinch of salt because it became a tired and worn square during that summer.
Still, last July, England were rolled for 249 against Pakistan there. Although we expect a flatter, better batting surface because of the summer heatwave, confidence in England going big has been severely tempered.
India, then, may rate the bet batting first to bust 300 or more at around 2.206/5. Sportsbook go 11/10 that both teams score 275. Prior to game one we'd have been all over that. We were also planning a bet at 13/5 for both teams to score 300 or more. Bet the Sportsbook markets here.
India love the chase
England are 2.0811/10 and India 1.9010/11. It's not a huge shift from pre-toss game one. India are probably deserving of shorter status.
They can boast a batting line-up which can match England, and they have the superior bowling group. Look, for example, at the chief spin option in Yuz Chahal compared to Moeen Ali? That's not a fair fight.
The toss is important. India are slightly better at chasing in the last three years while England are guns. They have ten wins in 14 with one tie. However, they are something of a disaster by comparison batting first with three wins from seven.
With the bowling unit they have, we don't expect them to improve on that record.
That puts pressure on England batting first. They may well need to go very big indeed. India could well chase up to 330 here, which opens up a strategy in-play. We would still expect England to shorten slightly if they bat first after the toss.
Tops value
Rohit and Joe Root have been boosted to 4.216/5 and 5.04/1 respectively for top team runscorer. There have been price changes all over the place for England. Buttler is out to 6.511/2 from a boosted 3s, probably the worst 'value' winning bet for some time considering he batted at No 5 at The Oval. Ben Stokes is into 5.04/1 from 7s after he batted at No 4.
For India, Dhawan is chunky at 4.57/2 given he opens. Rishabh Pant is cut from 7s to 6.05/1. Bumrah is 3.55/2 for top India bowler, whilst he gets a 10.09/1 quote for man of the match.
