Melbourne Renegades v Perth Scorchers team news
Renegades were defeated by Sydney Sixers in their opener. It wasn't a huge surprise. The manner of it was. A lot of their players looked unfit and their fielding was atrocious. Add in a confused batting order with Will Sutherland batting too low and it's hard not to think that a prepared team mentally and physically would have won.
Probable XI: Maddinson, Clarke, Fraser-McGurk, Cox, Finch, Wells, Sutherland, Rogers, Mujeeb, Richardson, Zampa
Perth will open with Cooper Connolly in the absence of Zak Crawley. He'll be paired with Stephen Eskinazi who has now appeared in squad lists. Jhye Richardson and Ashton Agar should both be picked after availability restricted their involvement last term.
Possible XI: Connolly, Evans, Inglis, Hardie, Turner, Whiteman, Hobson, Agar, Richardson, Tye, Behrendorff
Renegades could be a side to follow once they improve their fitness and form. Aaron Finch and Jono Wells, for example, looked in need of game time against Sixers.
But they got very close despite that. As we have said previously, axing Nic Maddinson will be a route to success. Until they do that they're likely to come up short, particularly against the best, and it's hard to argue with Perth's price of 1.635/8.
Melbourne Renegades v Perth Scorchers pitch report
Three of the last eight at Geelong have seen first-innings scores under 130. Going unders at around the mid-160s if Renegades is tempting against this crack Perth attack.
Maddinson averages just 17 against Perth and he has only 11 runs in his last five innings. But we're in a quandary. On the one hand we want to short his runs in-play at around 21.5. On the other, Sportsbook have gone 9/110.00 about the opener top scoring. It's clearly a wrong price on where he bats and it's a mistake that we should take advantage of.
Perhaps the opportunity to bet Connolly at 11/26.50 (also a wrong price on bat order) is enough to sate the value seekers. Connolly is a potential superstar. He has played two Bash matches and hit 25 and 20 not out at SR of 227 and 181 respectively.
