Timeform reflect on the EBF Soar Maiden Stakes, which took place on Tuesday of this week.

In 2008 this race was won by the Michael Jarvis-trained Opinion Poll who has since made up into a smart handicapper. This year's victor, Botanist, has the potential to go at least as far judged on the impressive style of Tuesday's success and, while not looking entirely straightforward, he is still a horse to follow next season.

In behind the winner a pair of newcomers caught the eye with displays full of promise. Treasure Town seemed to know his job well, finishing third having led for a long way. He was, however, not unduly knocked about once headed and the Godolphin colt looks to have improvement in him, particularly once faced with middle distances next year.

The Henry Cecil-trained Capital Attraction created a most favourable impression by belying obvious inexperience to finish fourth, barely five lengths behind the progressive winner. His highly-competent handler is certain to bring about improvement and victory in a similar contest looks a formality.

As in most end-of-season juvenile maidens there are plenty of horses who look set to improve significantly when faced with a longer trip as three-year-olds. Both Green Lightning and Azaday appeal as long-term prospects to take out of this race and could reward followers in 2010.
