Philip Hobbs's Chiaro heads the ratings. He put up a career best effort when one and a quarter lengths second of 14 to Alright Now M'Lad at Newbury, receiving reminders at the fifth but sticking on well. It was to his credit that he went so close, as he had been given a mark that looked fully reflective of his hurdling ability. He's clearly up to winning an ordinary race over fences and has raced on good ground on softer.
Sound Accord has been below his hurdles form when placed both starts over fences, though was racing over an inadequate trip when third to Rustarix at Folkestone last time. He may need a stiffer test of stamina than that he faces here but is a sound jumper in the main and is open to further improvement over fences.
Noel Chance's Turbulance also ran behind Rustarix at Folkestone, finishing a length and a quarter in front of Sound Accord when runner-up. His jumping hasn't been as assured as that rival though, and he fell at the first in a handicap at Newbury on his latest start. He is effective at this trip and acts on heavy going.
Carrick Oscar found less than seemed likely when nine lengths third of seven to Or Bleu in maiden at Bangor on his chasing debut. He is most effective at around two and a half miles, so it remains to be seen if this trip stretches him. He may be capable of better.
Cave Of The Giant makes his chasing debut having reached a fair standard over hurdles, winning twice at this course in 2007/8 whilst Kingham was well backed but raced too freely and was well held when unseating in a maiden chase at Chepstow on his belated return.

This looks a good opportunity for Vertigo On Course, a fast-finishing third at Southwell last week. Young Dottie's success last month is working out well and she also makes appeal, while each-way players could do worse than side with Toolentidhaar....
