When winning at Newbury last time Murcar had plenty in hand and he is taken to follow up here despite the handicapper's advances. Ovthenight and Soundbyte look the likeliest pair to capitalise if the selection is below form.

Murcar showed promise on more than one occasion last season and he returned to winning ways in blinkers at Newbury last time. He is on an 8 lb higher mark this time but may still have more to come.

Soundbyte is a reliable sort but was nowhere near his best at York last time. He should have no problem with conditions and is not on a bad mark at present.

Shy is still a maiden but is not on a bad mark on the pick of last season's efforts and she didn't run too badly on her reappearance. There is a bit more needed back against the boys this time though.

Ovthenight is back down to a good mark now and he ran well in an amateur event last time having raced close to a very strong pace. Any improvement for this longer trip will see him go close.

Wabbraan has shown a marked improvement since leaving David Simcock, winning twice for his new stable. He is yet to prove himself as effective on turf though and the fact a visor is tried here looks a negative.

Monte Pattino didn't look well treated on his return to turf at Musselburgh but was made plenty of use of and stayed on strongly to beat Master Nimbus. He produced a good effort next time as well and is on the upgrade.

Rare Ruby is a fair maiden handicapper who ran well here last time. This drop back in trip is not certain to suit though.

Royal Premier was successful twice in 2008, but has become inconsistent nowadays and it is sometime since he last ran to his best.

This looks a good opportunity for Vertigo On Course, a fast-finishing third at Southwell last week. Young Dottie's success last month is working out well and she also makes appeal, while each-way players could do worse than side with Toolentidhaar....

Despite being the senior citizen of the party, Mister Nous retains plenty of ability, and having won five times in France appears ready to open his British account. The Rainbow Hunter could be more deadly now switched to handicaps and looks a big threat to the selection, with Strategic Plan rated third best....

Jim Tango is open to improvement over fences, and this looks to be Miss Pross' easiest task for some time, but the likeable Bamby gets the nod with conditions to suit back over fences....

The two handicap debutants could be the ones to focus on here, with Ambrogina favoured more than Seamster. Knightfire will have to settle for a place again....
