Paul Nicholls: Dreadful weather means horses get a rest but no such luck for my staff
"They don't grit the roads around here like they used to, so everyone is coming in an hour earlier at 2pm this afternoon to go out and grit the roads."
Betfair Ambassador Paul Nicholls hasn't seen snow like it for quite some time, but while his horses have been worked and are now resting, it's far from a similar story for his staff...
For only the second time in 21 years here, we weren't able to work the horses this morning.
We have had a lot of snow here and conditions are dreadful, but at least we managed to plan ahead with the forecast.
So we worked the horses hard yesterday - suspecting that they may had to have a day in their boxes today - so today is like a lazy Sunday for them.
It won't be for my staff though.
They don't grit the roads around here like they used to, so everyone is coming in an hour earlier at 2pm this afternoon to go out and grit the roads.
I can see this weather affecting the racing for a while - and it has to be a worry for Cheltenham a week on Saturday.
But fingers crossed it relents, and the show gets back on the road quickly.
