"The way is clear for Wolf Moon, who is in great form, following two wins in novice company."
Carl Harris is howlin' at the moon in hope of a hat-trick...
'Remember, remember the fifth of November,' I will be hoping that maxim is true today. We certainly had a good set of results on Wednesday and I hope for more of the same today.
Haydock passed a 7am inspection for jumping to take place but there are no problems at Towcester and the all-weather at Lingfield. I have decided to leave Haydock alone as the ground will affect results today so it's not for me. No evening racing tonight as the nation enjoys the symbolic burning of Guy Fawkes, who like me was from York, and fireworks.
The Breeders Cup at Santa Anita takes place on Friday and Saturday and should be the best yet. I will be looking in detail at the cards, but I note with interest that Goldikova has been given the coffin box draw as she looks to repeat her devastating win last year - anyone share my conspiracy theories on this one?
Sahara Kingdom (13:45) was very well backed on his debut four weeks ago and won very impressively over course and distance. He reappears in a five runner novice contest at Lingfield, against stronger opposition but can confirm his promise with a quick double. It is a competitive affair with Tom Dascombe's Bellini Rose looking a decent sort and John Best runs a debutant here in Slip Sliding Away, rather than an easier maiden, which is of note. Sahara Kingdom though looks a special colt who is sure to have come on for his first run.
Wolf Moon (14:40) looks a decent price in what was a competitive looking handicap hurdle. Wolf Moon is looking for hat-trick having won in novice company and makes his handicap debut. Sabre Hongrois was the danger but now he is a non-runner the way is clear for Wolf Moon who is in great form, coming here following two wins in novice company. The hat-trick can be landed off a mark of 118 which looks more than fair.
Yesterday's value bet was placed at decent odds over jumps. For today's value bet I am turning to the all-weather at Lingfield where I like Hellbender (14:20). He dead-heated at Kempton last time out and only a two pounds rise in the weights gives him a very good chance at the bottom of the weights. At the prices I again recommend a win and place bet.
Carl Harris' Best Bets for Thursday 5 November:
• 13:45 Lingfield - Sahara Kingdom @ [1.45], Win
• 14:40 Towcester - Wolf Moon @ [2.88], Win
Value bet:
• 14:20 Lingfield - Hellbender [8.4], Win and Place.
