"Sir Michael Stoute, who is now virtually assured of regaining the trainers' title after his King George clean sweep, is in great form and with Ryan Moore taking the ride all the right boxes are ticked by Main Aim. He is my best bet of the day."
Carl Harris picks his best bets from the card on day one of as a Glorious week of racing gets underway...
Tuesday's are usually run of the mill, poor racing days, but not today. A fabulous week of racing starts today at the Sussex track with some good races and tomorrow we have a fantastic Sussex Stakes to look forward to with Paco Boy, Rip Van Winkle and Ghanaati all declared to run.
The feature race on Tuesday is the group two Betfair Cup which looks cut and dry according to the formbook. Main Aim (3.25) finished in front of JJ The Jet Plane at Newmarket, quite readily, and I see no reason why the result will be any different today. The July Cup was a group one, but this group two Betfair sponsored contest has served up a race worthy of a group one tag. I think Main Aim is still improving and is a good thing for me today. Sir Michael Stoute, who is now virtually assured of regaining the trainers' title after his King George clean sweep, is in great form and with Ryan Moore taking the ride all the right boxes are ticked by Main Aim. He is my best bet of the day.
I must admit to laying Richard Hannon's speedster, Monsieur Chevalier (4.00) last time out, in the Super Sprint at Newbury. I will not be making that mistake again and he proved just what a good colt he is by giving plenty of weight away that day to win. He is on level terms with his rivals in this group three Betfair Molecomb Stakes, who are a better calibre than at Newbury but this is a very good horse who has a turn of foot that should see him home for a first group race success.
Richard Hughes has ridden him in all of his six starts and is back on board today. Hughes will know just how to ride him and again and I see only one result with Monsieur Chevalier making it six from seven for the season.
I can't wait for the Sussex Stakes tomorrow, good luck.
Tuesday's Goodwood Bets:
3.25 Goodwood- Main Aim, Win
4.00 Goodwood- Monsieur Chevalier, Win
