Seven-length win over Epsom Downs impresses as Stoute's colt lands the 231st running of the Classic
Workforce won the 231st Derby with a deeply impressive performance at Epsom today.
Sir Michael Stoute's colt chased down huge outsider At First Sight in the final few furlongs to romp clear of the field for a seven length win, landing a Classic double at Epsom for Ryan Moore.
Aidan O'Brien's Jan Vermeer went off favourite and was matched at [2.32] in-running but had no answer to Workforce's turn of foot, eventually coming home fourth.
Ante-post backers secured a high of [55.0] on Stoute's cahrge while day of the race punters backed him at [9.8] and all prices down. At First Sight went off in triple figures but traded at [3.1] on the run-in as it looked like he might pull off a shock victory.
Workforce now heads the ante-post betting for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at [5.5] with Coronation Cup winner Fame and Glory a shade back at [7.2].
