Ascot - 13:15: Back Mondoui'boy @ 13/82.63

We're looking for a good start from the two Bens, Pauling and Jones, and the rider certainly has been in form at Ascot this season at 6-20 and 30%, with Pauling supplying 5-20.

Mondoui'boy has three opponents rated above 120 here so he will have to improve again, but he looked a good prospect winning his Maiden Hurdle at Ludlow last time fairly emphatically by over 4L.

He was formerly in the care of Harry Dereham and David Maxwell, and having shown ability in bumpers under "The Max", his first start for Pauling last time was impressive. The going was given as "good to soft" that day, but Timeform rated the ground more "soft" and that should stand him in good stead and he won't mind coming back down in distance from the 2m5f at Ludlow with the testing going likely.

Ascot - 15:00: Back Montregard @ 4/15.00

Montregard was one of my antepost tips this week in my Tuesday column, and it's good to see the price in from 6/17.00 now at 4/15.00 for Tom Lacey.

As a seven-year-old, there is a lot to come from this chaser and with Sam Brown rather hamstrung by his weight and mark of 154, this race has opened up with connections clearly fancying their chances in receipt of stones as out of the weights.

Montregard shaped well over CD last time in soft behind the Jukebox Kid (who runs in the Grade 2 novice earlier on the card).

His Timeform rating puts him in with a shout here from 159 compared to Jipcot (161), and the good pace will suit.

Lingfield - 15:10: Back Heathcliff @ 9/43.25

With the weather likely to impact Haydock and Wincanton, the third selection is James Fanshawe's Heathcliff, who heads the betting at 9/43.25 for the good quality 0-105 7f Handicap on the All-Weather.

Heathcliff has been holding his form well, running to consistent marks of 90 and 91 and his effort behind El Bodon at Kempton in December looks a lot better now as El Bodon has since won a handicap again this week in a hot winter race.

His rider dropped the whip in the closing stages behind El Bodon, and the steady pace looked against him slightly over 6f on that occasion, but he still managed to record sub 11-second sectionals at 4f and 5f.

He was stepped up to 7f last time and it's an avenue well worth exploring, and a track like Lingfield could suit with is kick into the turn potentially the clincher.
