Shadowfax of Rohan was just a modest maiden for Mickey Hammond, but he proved a totally different proposition on his first start for Patrick Neville on his chasing debut over this course and distance last week.
He was well supported on his first start since undergoing a breathing operation and he won with plenty in hand in a refitted hood, making all of the running and he and the runner-up pulled well clear of the remainder.
That performance was supported by a good timefigure and he looks well treated turned out under a 7lb penalty, clear on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings and he now has the Timeform small p attached to his rating, denoting he's open to further improvement.

Crimson Rambler has shown improved form since entering handicaps this year, finishing runner-up in all three of his starts, and he's been well placed to open his account now.
The fitting of blinkers and step up to seven furlongs have also been catalysts for his improvement, and he's caught the eye on his last two starts, both times having been given too much to do in steadily-run races.
Crimson Rambler fared best of those who raced off the pace at Kempton a fortnight ago, just unable to get on terms with the thriving winner, and the step up to a mile for the first time now could unlock further improvement. He races from the same mark now and stands out in this field - he's at least 4lb clear on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.

The Lost Sock showed steady improvement in three starts last year, progressing well from his debut when only narrowly denied over five furlongs at Thirsk, and again showing improved form when landing the odds at Catterick when last seen in August.
He got off the mark in comfortable fashion, briefly showing some inexperience under pressure before asserting from an experienced rival, and that form has been franked since.
The Lost Sock has since been gelded, and the handicapper may have taken a chance with his opening mark of 84, with the return to six furlongs expected to prove no problem. He represents a top yard and likely has even more to offer this year - he has the Timeform small p attached to his rating.
