Al Hudaiba has just one blip on his CV so far and that came when unseating his rider on his second start at Yarmouth when looking like making it two from two.

However, he quickly made amends for that that when completing a simple task at Newmarket next time, and he improved a chunk to make it three wins in four starts when narrowly outpointing the highly-touted Abraham Lincoln in the Superlative Stakes 17 days ago.

There was an element to him taking advantage of the runner-up's inexperience, his rider doing very well to persuade him to the front after he'd looked awkward in the dip.

Al Hubaida may not be straightforward, but he's clearly got ability, and it's no surprise to see first-time blinkers fitted now. He sets the standard and the headgear may allow him to progress further.

15:00 Goodwood - A good opportunity for Lake Forest

Lake Forest is one of the best around at seven furlongs in Britain at his best, and he shaped well when runner-up to Witness Stand in this race 12 months ago when he was the only one to make any inroads from off the pace.

He proved himself as good as ever on his return in a listed event at Haydock, too, taking advantage of a drop in grade having been highly tried last season in style, readily moving clear in the final furlong having travelled fluently.

The drop to six furlongs worked against him in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last time, but he was still far from disgraced, doing all of his best work at the finish and beaten only one and a half lengths back in Group 1 company.

This return to Group 2 company will help Lake Forest and, sure to be liberated by the return to seven furlongs also, he should prove a tough nut to crack on his Haydock form - he's 2lb clear of his rivals on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.

There is nothing between Scandinavia and Trawlerman on Timeform ratings, but the former is the up-and-coming force in the staying division and it taken to confirm Gold Cup form from Royal Ascot.

He beat stablemate Illinois in this race 12 months ago and his winning run has extended since, producing a big career-best effort when winning his third Group 1 race last month.

The winning margin was only a head, but such is his run style, he is never likely to win by a wide margin, only just doing enough but once again displaying an excellent attitude.

He's four years younger than Trawlerman and Scandinavia has the potential to dominate the staying division for years to come and he's a strong fancy to retain his crown.
