The runners head over a hurdle at Taunton

Timeform highlight three horses of interest at Chelmsford, Punchestown and Taunton on Thursday.

  • Below The Radar can build on encouraging run

  • Cosmo Renfro is on a potentially lenient mark

  • Fallon a significant jockey booking for Kuiama

Taunton, 14:05 - 'Horse In Focus' Below The Radar should be fitter for comeback effort

Below The Radar had looked highly promising when winning all three starts during the 2023/24 season so it was disappointing that he failed to add to his tally last term. However, he did sign off for the season with a more encouraging effort at Ayr where he was beaten only a neck in second, and he also showed plenty to work with when third on his reappearance at Kempton last month.

Below The Radar was ultimately beaten nine lengths at Kempton, but he looked set to finish much closer when making good headway on the approach to the second last. He failed to sustain that effort, leaving the impression he'd benefit from the run, but he earned the Horse In Focus Flag from Timeform's reporter to mark him out as one likely to be of firm interest next time.

He now goes chasing and, as a graduate from the pointing scene, it would be little surprise to see him raise his game over fences. He's in the right hands to progress with Paul Nicholls, who boasts a fine record at Taunton, particularly when teaming up with Harry Cobden. Nicholls and Cobden have combined for 45 winners at an impressive 36% strike rate at Taunton since the start of the 2020/21 jumps season.

Punchestown, 14:50 - 'Horse In Focus' Cosmo Renfro can do better for Cromwell

November was a trying month for trainer Gavin Cromwell who had only one winner from 119 runners over jumps. With that in mind, Cosmo Renfro perhaps deserves credit for finishing runner-up on his stable debut at Limerick last month and can be expected to build on that for a yard that has shown more positive signs of late.

Cosmo Renfro was beaten 20 lengths at Limerick but he showed up well for a long way, earning the Horse In Focus Flag from Timeform's reporter who identified him as 'just the type his new yard excel with and almost certainly one to be persevering with at a similar level'.

He runs off the same mark at Limerick, which is 4 lb below his last winning mark, so he is potentially well treated and narrowly heads Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings for this competitive handicap.

Chelmsford, 17:30 - 'Jockey Uplift' Fallon can coax improvement from Kuiama

Cieren Fallon is enjoying comfortably his best year yet and only five riders in Britain have exceeded his tally of 126 winners in 2025.

It looks significant, therefore, that he is taking over from a much less experienced rider on Kuiama in the Chelmsford nursery, and his booking has generated Timeform's Jockey Uplift Flag.

Kuiama has been partnered in all three handicaps - and all three starts for this stable - by 7 lb apprentice Lillie Dingle, who enjoyed a first winner when Kuiama was successful at Wolverhampton on her penultimate outing.

Kuiama still looks fairly treated off just 2 lb higher for that win and she narrowly heads Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings here.
