Timeform highlight three horses of interest at Carlisle and Fairyhouse on Sunday.

  • Chosen Diamond 5 lb clear on ratings

  • Drop Kick can build on recent victory

  • Great Notions shaped well last time

Fairyhouse, 12:05 - Chosen Diamond's the ratings choice back over fences

Chosen Diamond's campaign over hurdles last season started and ended with disappointing efforts, but he produced two good performances in between, winning at this venue before running at least as well in defeat when chasing home a rejuvenated rival at Navan.

The form of his effort at Navan was given a boost when the winner, Dunboyne, followed up in the Ulster National, and Chosen Diamond looks well treated off this 1 lb lower mark on his return to chasing.

He's lightly raced in handicap chases but has won over fences and has shown enough to suggest he's as good in this sphere. He looks well treated based on the form of his Navan effort and comes out 5 lb clear at the head of Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings.

Carlisle, 12:15 - Lightly raced Drop Kick can improve again

Drop Kick failed to make an impact in three novices but, having been raised in trip, he showed improved form to make a successful start in handicap company over this course and distance a few weeks ago.

Drop Kick was involved in a protracted battle with one of the joint-favourites, Dearkeithandkaty, but he showed a determined attitude to get the verdict by a neck, seemingly relishing the extra emphasis on stamina.

Drop Kick may have had to work very hard to prevail, but the front pair pulled seven and a half lengths clear of the third, so a 6 lb rise in the weights may not be enough to stop him following up, especially as his lightly raced profile offers hope of more to come. Drop Kick narrowly heads Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings and is the only one of these ten runners with the Timeform 'small p' to show further improvement is expected.

Carlisle, 13:45 - 'Horse In Focus' Great Notions to launch bold bid

Winning pointer Great Notions made a successful start under Rules when narrowly landing a hunter chase at Hexham in May, getting the better of a lengthy battle with the favourite.

He was by no means disgraced when third in a stronger race at Cartmel a few weeks later, but he produced a better effort when runner-up on his handicap debut and seasonal reappearance at Wetherby this month.

He couldn't go with an unexposed chasing debutant after the final fence, but there was a lot to like about how Great Notions went through most of the race, showing enough to suggest that he's started off in handicaps from a fair mark. Timeform's reporter awarded Great Notions the Horse In Focus Flag, marking him out as one likely to be of firm interest next time, and he can build on his recent promise.
