14:08, Kempton - Pure Carbon will relish longer trip

Barring a blip at Ludlow in November, Pure Carbon has made a positive start over fences, winning two of his four starts, and proving better than ever after 10 weeks off at Musselburgh last month.

He did still look rough around the edges that day, getting there just in time on a sound surface at a track which was probably sharp enough for him, and he would have likely won by further but for a couple of late errors.

The extra two furlongs he faces now is sure to suit Pure Carbon both on run style and pedigree and, given he is almost certainly open to further improvement - he has the Timeform small p attached to his rating - he remains a chaser to be positive about moving into stronger waters.

14:25, Uttoxeter - 'Horse In Focus' A Pai de Nom the one to beat

A Pai de Nom could have run in either the Albert Bartlett or the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival, so the fact that Dan Skelton has saved him for this handicap is telling, and on the back of his Newbury romp, he's one to follow.

He's had a very productive first season over hurdles, winning three times, and more or less improving with each run, relishing the step up to three miles in heavy ground last time.

A Pai De Nom cruised into contention that day, showing a useful level of form and bundles of stamina, and was given the Horse In Focus Flag by Timeform's reporter. He's clearly very progressive, will love the ground and still looks well handicapped from a mark of 129.

15:18, Kempton - Califet en Vol has some strong form

Califet en Vol was a two-time winner over hurdles last season, but he's all over a chaser on looks, and he ran with plenty of encouragement in races which have worked out well prior to opening his account over course and distance three weeks ago.

He bumped into Sixmilebridge on his debut, finished third to some useful types at Cheltenham next time, and improved a little further when fifth in another strong edition of the Timeform Novices' Handicap Chase.

Califet en Vol showed more of what he's about when deservedly getting his head in front recently, though, jumping soundly and gradually asserting away from a pair of other fancied rivals. A subsequent 5lb rise looks fair given he's improved with each start so far and more than likely has even more to offer - he has the Timeform small p attached to his rating.
