13:40 Ascot - Unexposed Thunder Call stands out

A three-year-old on the up for William Haggas, the top-rated Thunder Call brings a different profile to Ascot's seven-furlong handicap compared with his more exposed rivals and should take plenty of beating.

His only previous try at the trip came on his debut last season, since when he has made into a useful handicapper over six furlongs, winning one of the big races for three-year-olds over that trip at York in June.

The York runner-up Red Spells Danger turned the tables on Thunder Call in the Shergar Cup Sprint here last time, but he shaped a bit better than the result staying on in second, earning the 'Horse In Focus' flag.

15:25 Ascot - Gavriel can book Cambridgeshire spot

Ascot's mile and a quarter handicap is restricted to horses which have won no more than once, and this can go to Gavriel, a smartly bred son of Frankel from the Gosden stable making his handicap debut.

Gavriel impressed when landing a novice at Kempton on his second start at two and was then off for the best part of a year before returning in a similar event at the same track early last month.

He shaped promisingly in second, earning the 'Horse In Focus' flag, behind smart prospect Najidi Storm, and will be suited by the longer trip here, his yard no doubt having the Cambridgeshire in mind for him.

15:55 Kempton - Veil of Clouds weighted to follow up

Veil of Clouds made a mockery of her BHA mark of 69 when bolting up by six lengths on her second start in a handicap at Lingfield last month and Simon & Ed Crisford's filly can follow up here.

Veil of Clouds didn't make her debut until June but has made rapid strides on the all-weather since and was impressive at Lingfield where she made all, quickening clear once into the straight.

Up against her own sex this time, Veil of Clouds has an 8 lb higher mark to defy, but she's fully 5 lb clear in the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings, so still on an attractive mark and in the right hands to progress again.
