Racing Tips: Key Timeform data including a 7/2 improving Horse In Focus at Newbury

Timeform highlight three horses of interest at Newbury and Newcastle on Saturday.

Newbury, 14:25 - Top-rated Heltenham the one to beat

Heltenham won this race in 2023 and 2024, and he also landed the Greatwood Gold Cup here last month to take his record over the course and distance to a highly impressive four wins from six starts.

The form of the Greatwood Gold Cup has already been well advertised with the runner-up, Blow Your Wad, finishing fourth in the Ultima at Cheltenham and the third, Teddy Blue, winning a valuable handicap at Kempton.

Heltenham still looks well treated off this 6 lb higher mark and comes out 2 lb clear on Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings. He should give another good account of himself at a track that clearly suits.

Newbury, 15:00 - 'Horse In Focus' Getawhisky will benefit from longer trip

Getawhisky wasn't seen to best effect having been held up off the pace at Market Rasen last time, but she made encouraging late headway into fourth and caught the eye of Timeform's reporter who awarded the Horse In Focus Flag to mark her out as one likely to be of firm interest next time.

Getawhisky had been a comfortable winner of a mares' novice hurdle at Windsor prior to that, looking value for more than the margin of three and a quarter lengths in a race that turned into a dash and didn't allow her to demonstrate her full superiority.

Getawhisky has been campaigned at around two miles so far but she has plenty of stamina in her pedigree and shapes as if she'll benefit from this longer trip. She has the Timeform 'small p' to highlight that improvement is expected.

Newcastle, 18:30 - 'Horse In Focus' Kingofthecarnival can build on recent win

Kingofthecarnival was unplaced on all three starts in maiden/ novice company but showed much-improved form to make a successful handicap debut on his return from five months off at Newcastle 16 days ago.

Kingofthecarnival, who had been gelded prior to his return, was well backed last time and rewarded that support with an authoritative display, finding plenty to win going away by a length and three-quarters.

The style of that success earned Kingofthecarnival the Horse In Focus Flag and he still has the Timeform 'small p', with the step up to a mile expected to unlock some improvement.
