Pontefract, 14:52 - Top-rated Daizen stands out on the figures

Daizen was runner-up on his first couple of starts in handicaps but he improved markedly on those pieces of form when getting off the mark in maiden company at Ayr on his final outing of the campaign.

Daizen was showing much-improved form but there was no fluke about the performance as he travelled well, led over a furlong out and was nicely on top by the line, scoring by a length and three-quarters.

He re-enters handicaps off a BHA mark of 74, 14 lb higher than when last seen in this company, but he could still be well treated as the runner-up at Ayr has since been placed in a handicap off a mark of 80. Daizen comes out 4 lb clear at the head of Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings here.

Yarmouth, 15:45 - 'Horse In Focus' Caragio can build on recent promise

Caragio had been disappointing in four starts for Martin Dunne but he fell sharply in the weights as a result and almost capitalised on his much-reduced mark at Chelmsford last month on his first start for Adam Kirby.

Caragio couldn't quite reward strong support that saw him sent off the 2/1 favourite, but he shaped very promisingly and did well to finish runner-up and get to within half a length of the winner after conceding first run.

The way Caragio stayed on in the straight from an unpromising position caught the eye of Timeform's reporter who awarded the Horse In Focus Flag, marking him out as one likely to be of firm interest next time. Even on that form Caragio still looks well handicapped off this 3 lb higher mark and narrowly tops Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings, while he could be very well treated if getting near the level he showed a few years ago, so he has the + symbol to show he could be rated higher.

Wolverhampton, 20:30 - Top-rated Distinction is on a dangerous mark

Distinction was disappointing on his final few starts last season and hasn't made the frame on either outing this year, but he did step up markedly on his reappearance effort when fifth at Pontefract last time and should now be back to full fitness.

Despite offering some encouragement at Pontefract, Distinction has been eased 2 lb since his latest effort and is now 4 lb lower in the weights than when successful at Kempton in August. He's clearly on a dangerous mark based on that Kempton victory and heads Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings by 2 lb.

It's also worth noting that Distinction drops in grade here and is back in class 6 company for the first time since he was successful at Pontefract last June. The experienced PJ McDonald was in the saddle that day at Pontefract and is back on board here for the first time this season.
