Timeform highlight three horses of interest at Cheltenham and Newcastle on Friday.

  • Thriving Tedwin Hills can complete hat-trick

  • Top-class Jonbon is 7 lb clear on ratings

  • Champion Bumper second Heads Up a smart prospect

Newcastle, 13:55 - 'Horse In Focus' Tedwin Hills is well treated under a penalty

Tedwin Hills was let down by his jumping on his final two starts last season when pulled up at Ffos Las following a bad mistake and then unseating at Fontwell when looking in control.

However, his jumping has proved an asset this season and on both starts he has earned the 'j' in-running symbol from Timeform to highlight that point.

Timeform's reporter remarked Tedwin Hills was 'one to follow' when posting an impressive eight-and-a-half-length success on his return at Stratford last month and he followed that up with a ten-length victory at Warwick ten days ago. That Warwick performance earned him the Horse In Focus Flag, marking him out as one likely to be of firm interest next time, and even under a 7 lb penalty he still looks fairly treated and heads Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings by 2 lb. He's unproven on testing ground but he's thriving at present and looks worth siding with in his current form.

Cheltenham, 14:55 - Top-rated Jonbon sets the clear standard

Jonbon suffered a high-profile defeat in the Champion Chase over this course and distance in March, effectively losing all chance with a bad mistake at the ninth, and was also beaten by Il Etait Temps in the Celebration Chase on his final start of the season, but he still managed to add three Grade 1s to his tally, winning the Tingle Creek, Clarence House and Melling Chases.

The performances in the Tingle Creek and Clarence House, which he won by eight lengths and six and a half lengths respectively, were especially impressive and rank right up there with the pick of his efforts on Timeform's ratings.

Jonbon also won the Shloer Chase last season and is back again bidding to complete a hat-trick in the race. He has to concede weight all round, but even on these terms he sets a high bar for his rivals to reach, heading Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings by 7 lb from Edwardstone.

Cheltenham, 15:30 - 'Horse In Focus' Heads Up has more to offer

Heads Up won only one of his five starts in bumpers last season but he showed plenty of ability in that sphere, most notably when finishing runner-up to Bambino Fever in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival.

With such a strong piece of bumper form to his name, Heads Up was unsurprisingly sent off a short price on his hurdling debut at Listowel and he completed the task in straightforward fashion.

He wasn't always fluent, but only had to be nudged out to score by two lengths. That victory was achieved with plenty in hand and he was awarded the Horse In Focus Flag by Timeform's reporter to mark him out as one likely to be of firm interest next time.

The runner-up, L'Evangeliste, has since run out an impressive winner to give the form a boost and Heads Up is likely to carry on improving over hurdles (as denoted by the Timeform 'small p'). The step up in trip presents a new challenge but one he is expected to rise to.
